Cops: Danbury man molested 3-year-old

DANBURY — A city man who police said sexually abused a 3-year-old girl was arrested on felony charges Tuesday after a nine-month investigation.

Rony Ortega, 34, of Maple Ridge Road, was charged with first-degree sexual assault and two counts of risk of injury to a minor.

 

Car break-ins warning

KENT — Kent Resident Trooper Andrew Fisher warns residents that last weekend the town of Litchfield was hit with a wave of car break-ins.

The break-ins took place during the late nigh. In all cases the cars were not locked. Various items were stolen from the cars, as well as unsecured items left outside.

The CT State Police remind everyone to lock their cars; hide any items of value in the car; put away outdoor items of value like chain saws; and if they see something suspicious or odd, report it immediately to 911.

 

Cops: Danbury students sick after eating tainted brownies

DANBURY — Four students at Henry Abbott Technical High School were taken to the hospital last week after eating brownies potentially laced with a synthetic narcotic or marijuana, police said Monday.

A preliminary investigation indicates another student distributed the brownies, which detectives said contained a substance possibly “synthetic in nature.”

NWS decreases snowfall totals as nor’easter fizzles

On Friday, the National Weather Service had forecast up to 7 inches of snow for southwest Connecticut, but now says we’ll only get brushed by the storm as it swirls up the East Coast.

In its forecast discussion Saturday, the NWS says the low-pressure system will be weaker than earlier forecast models suggested.

[...] snowfall amounts which have trended downward are being done gradually, the NWS says.

The snow will be over before dawn and roads should just be wet by the time people hit the roads.

The biggest snowfall of the season was on Jan.

 

Pair charged in Danbury street robbery

DANBURY — A robbery attempt landed two people in jail and left a victim with facial injuries early Friday morning, police said.

Jijon, 22, of Danbury, and Suarez-Urgiles, 23, of New York, N.Y., were each charged with second-degree robbery attempt, conspiracy to commit second-degree robbery, third-degree assault and breach of peace.

 

Cops: Newtown theater director had sex with teens

NEWTOWN — A theater director accused of having sexual relationships with several underage girls was arrested on felony charges Thursday.

The investigation began in November after a student told Newtown High School Resource Officer Liam Seabrook that Madden had contacted her through social media and engaged in an appropriate conversation, according to a news release.

Police said they learned Madden had a pattern of contacting young women on social media and persuading them to meet with him in secret.

 

Crash closes I-84 east exit in Danbury

Exit five off I-84 east in Danbury was closed at about 9:40 a.m. Thursday because of a two-car accident, state police said.

According to scanner reports, the crash occurred near the top of the exit ramp and the vehicles involved were seriously damaged. At least one victim was extricated, according to the reports.

Police could not confirm if anyone was injured.

 

Danbury boy, 15, charged with selling pot

DANBURY — A 15-year-old boy is facing drug trafficking charges after police said they saw him wrap marijuana into plastic film while sitting on a Main Street sidewalk Monday afternoon.

The juvenile, who was not identified because of his age, was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana with intent to sell, possession of marijuana near a school and possession of drug paraphernalia.
