PD: Danbury man flees from cops, crashes stolen car

A State Police trooper was driving a cruiser with a license plate reader on North Street, by the Exit 6 off-ramp to westbound Interstate 84, when he passed by a car with plates that were canceled on a different vehicle, according to the report.

Fernandez was charged with second-degree larceny, first-degree criminal trover, engaging police in pursuit, reckless driving, interfering with an officer, driving without a license, driving an unregistered vehicle and improper use of a license plate.

 

Incident at Southbury bus stop prompts police investigation

Authorities said the resident trooper’s office in Southbury learned that a man parked near a bus stop at the corner of River Hill and Branch roads approached an elementary school student.

 

Jack-knifed tractor-trailer closes I-84

A jackknifted tractor-trailer has closed westbound I-84 between Exits 4 and 3 in Danbury.

Traffic is being detoured off the highway because of the accident that was reported at 4:06 a.m. according to the state Department of Transportation.

The accident is causing a significant westbound traffic backup.

There’s no word yet on when the road will reopen or whether there are any injuries from the crash.

While no cause of the crash has been determined, I-84 has a light accumulation of snow on the highway.

Speakers in the Student Center Theater will include Terry Buzaid, author of “The Great Danbury State Fair,” who will talk about that famous extravaganza at 9:30 a.m.

[...] Velya Jancz-Urban, a teacher and the author of “Acquiescence,” will present “The Not-So-Good Life of the Colonial Goodwife” at 11 a.m. Research for Jancz-Urban’s novel, a story about women bonding through the centuries, spurred the idea for her presentation, which she has done at many universities across the country.

The program will move to the Danbury Library at 2:30 p.m.

 

New Milford man sentenced in heroin death

Jordan, of Pumpkin Hill Road, New Milford was arrested July 9, 2015 on charges of sale of narcotic substance/non-dependent, and conspiracy to commit the sale of narcotic substance following an investigation into DeFino’s June 22, 2015 overdose death.

The State’s Medical Examiner for the cause of DeFino’s death to be heroin toxicity, accidental overdose.

According to court documents, Beatty and Jordan had visited DeFino at his parents’ house the evening of June 21, 2015.

Southbury fire under investigation as arson

Southbury Fire Marshal Barry Rickert said the blaze, which damaged more than half of the house at 97 Housatonic Trail, started somewhere on the first floor, but he would not say what caused it because the investigation is ongoing.

 

PD: Danbury drug dealer struck cruiser, threatened cops

Detectives planned a drug raid in Pereira’s home after receiving several complaints from residents regarding drug activity and sales at his apartment.

Pereira was charged with three counts of possession of narcotics and one count each of possession of crack cocaine with intent to sell, possession of more than 4 ounces of marijuana, possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, possession of drug paraphernalia in a drug factory situation, and criminal mischief.

 

Sentencing for ex-Newtown cop postponed

NEWTOWN — The sentencing of Steven Santucci, a former Newtown police sergeant who recently admitted to leading a steroid trafficking ring, has been postponed until he completes an electrician’s training program. “Mr. Santucci is diligently planning for a second career and it would be beneficial if he could complete his technical training so that he can begin the new career as soon as his legal problems are behind him,” defense attorney Dan LaBelle wrote in a letter to the court.

 

Danbury driver charged with evading after 2 crashes

Piotr Bartosiewicz kept going in his Subaru Forester after the SUV collided with another vehicle at the corner of North Street and Maple Avenue, police said. Police said that when they stopped Bartosiewicz, they discovered he had an outstanding warrant on another evading charge.

 

Investigation continues into car vs. pedestrian accident

DANBURY — Police on Monday said they are still investigating a serious accident that sent a middle school student to the hospital Friday afternoon. The boy had just gotten off the school bus on Madison Avenue when he was struck by a car while crossing North Street, authorities said.
