Three hurt in Danbury crash

DANBURY — Two drivers and a passenger were taken to the hospital with minor injuries Sunday evening after a three-car crash on Interstate 84, authorities said.

A man from Brewster, N.Y., was driving a Nissan Rogue about a mile before Exit 4 on westbound I-84 when she slowed down to avoid hitting debris on the road and was struck by a Chrysler 200, driven by a New Jersey woman, police said on Tuesday.

 

Homeless man, woman charged in Danbury

DANBURY — Two homeless people were arrested last week after police said they disturbed employees and customers at two different stores in Danbury.

Two days later, officers were called to the Salvation Army Thrift Store, 129 Main St., after a homeless man threatened to kill a woman, police said.

 

Trumbull cops: Boy abducted, found safe the same day

TRUMBULL — A convicted cocaine wholesaler broke into a Unity Road house early Saturday, assaulted his estranged wife and took thousands of dollars in cash before abducting his 7-year-old son, police said.

Police Chief Michael Lombardo said at a Saturday afternoon news conference the search was ongoing and town police were coordinating efforts with the Connecticut State Police, FBI, New York State Police and the New York City Police Department.

Brookfield resident charged with DUI after crash

Police say a 19-year-old Brookfield resident was arrested after crashing his car Thursday at the intersection of Lake George Road and South Obtuse Road.

Edward Honse, of Galloping Hill Road, is charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of drugs/alcohol and failure to drive in the proper lane, police said.

Police said Honse’s car was the only vehicle involved in the the crash, which occurred shortly after 1 a.m.

Honse was released on $50 bond and is due in court on March 24.

 

Danbury police arrest Waterbury man after DUI crash

A Waterbury man was arrested in Danbury Saturday morning for drunken driving after making an illegal left turn and striking another vehicle, police said.

Elton Gardner, 54 of Meadowbrook Drive in Waterbury, refused to take a breathalyzer test, but failed a field sobriety test after the accident on Lake Street Extension, police said.

Danbury police said both Gardner’s vehicle and that of the other victim were towed from the scene.

Gardner is due in court on March 23.

 

Off-duty Greenwich cop jumps into pond to save toddlers

GREENWICH — A walk at the beach on a perfect springlike day nearly turned tragic Friday when a baby stroller slid down an embankment, plunging two young children — ages 13 months and 6 weeks — into the icy water at Greenwich Point.

The worst was avoided when an off-duty Greenwich police officer saw the incident and dove into the water, rescuing the older child, while the mother scrambled down the embankment and pulled her infant from the water, police said.

Ridgefield police bust suspected serial burglar

RIDGEFIELD — Police arrested a suspect this week in a rash of burglaries that hit a neighborhood near Route 116 last fall.

The man smashed a side window and stole several credit cards and a cell phone, police said.

 

Danbury man to serve 16 years in jail for home invasions

Marlon Patterson, 32, was one of the two leaders of the conspiracy, in which eight men and two women wore masks, carried guns and broke into homes of drug dealers to steal cash and narcotics.

Danbury police and the Drug Enforcement Administration began investigating the group in 2013 after learning it maintained several drug distribution sites, known as trap houses, out of which they sold crack cocaine and heroin.

During the probe, officials learned the group invaded and robbed the homes of several marijuana dealers in the Danbury area.

Cops: Drunk driver fled police at 100 mph

The driver, later identified as 25-year-old Bradley Hamel, suddenly stopped in the middle of an intersection while the traffic light was green and made a wide right turn onto northbound Route 188, where his car kept weaving and crossing over the center line, police said.

While driving at more than 100 mph — in an area where the posted speed limit is 40 mph — the man lost control of the car in a sharp curve, skidded off the left side of the roadway and struck two curve warning signs near the Judd Road intersection, police said.

 

Bus crash in Bethel

BETHEL — Bethel Police and EMS are on the scene of a bus crash at Stony Hill and Garella roads Wednesday morning at 10 a.m.

Five patients from the bus required evaluation, per scanner. Three ambulances called to the scene. Danbury Police called for mutual aid at 10:08 a.m.
