Truck crash closes lanes on I-84 in Danbury

The right and center westbound lanes of Interstate 84 are closed before Exit 6 in Danbury because of a tractor trailer accident that happened at about 9:45 a.m. Friday, state police said.

Police said that the truck crashed into a tree between Exits 5 and 6 and that there were no injuries.

It is unknown how long the lanes will be closed

 

Danbury man charged in N.Y. with selling pills

A Danbury man is facing drug charges in Patterson, N.Y. after selling prescription pills to an undercover police officer, according to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department.

 

Reactions pour in after Newtown teacher’s arrest

“Our community is still reeling from the tragic shooting that occurred on December 14, 2012,” the group said.

Cops: Newtown teacher brought gun to school

Staff at Newtown Middle School, 11 Queen St., called police about 9 a.m. to let them know a teacher was being detained for carrying a concealed weapon, the release said.

The police department, working with the administration of the Newtown Public Schools, immediately began an investigation and determined that Adams violated state law and school policy forbidding the possession of a firearm on school property.

“This close working relationship between the school system and law enforcement personnel is essential in resolving incidents of this nature,” Viadero wrote.

 

Cops: Brookfield man bought Xbox parts with fake bills

A Brookfield man is facing charges after police in New York said he used counterfeit money to buy Xbox video gaming equipment.

Aaron Coderre, 25, was arrested in Southeast, N.Y., last week and charged with first-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument, a Class C felony, and petit larceny, a Class A misdemeanor.

The incident took place in Southeast on March 6, New York State Police said.

Coderre was arraigned in Brewster and held at the Putnam County Jail on $3,000 bond.

 

Danbury man charged with DUI after rollover

DANBURY — A 19-year-old city man was arrested after police said they found his car overturned next to a broken utility pole on White Street early Tuesday morning.

Officers found the suspect’s Honda Accord on its roof about 20 feet away from a utility pole that was broken in half and had its wires hanging low, police said.

 

Sherman man facing drug charges

NEW MILFORD — A 35-year-old Sherman man is facing sale of narcotics charges stemming from the investigation into an incident on Sept. 23, 2105 in Sherman and New Milford.

Patrick Hackett, of Patridge Trail, Sherman turned himself in to New Milford Police Sunday on a warrant for his arrest. Hackett is charged with sale of narcotic substance and sale of narcotic substance by nondefendent, police said.

He was released on $15,000 bond with a court date April 11 in Superior Court in Danbury.

 

Amtrak service suspended from NYC to Philly

Amtrak has suspended service between New York City and Philadelphia following a crash south of Philadelphia that left two dead, railroad officials said.

There were approximately 341 passengers and seven crew members on board. The train struck a backhoe while traveling from Georgia around 8 a.m., according to various media reports.

 

Danbury woman arrested after slapping police officers

DANBURY — A Chestnut Street resident faces several assault charges after police said she slapped two officers and two other victims during a Friday afternoon tirade at the Kennedy Avenue bus station.

Police then forced Droz to the ground, handcuffed her and placed into a police car, but then, police said, Droz kicked open the car door, which struck a third officer in the wrist.

 

Teenager rescued after Danbury excavator accident

A 16-year-old was freed from the excavator he was operating Saturday morning after the machine knocked down a Center Street utility pole, fire officials said.

Fire Chief Bernie Meehan said that the excavator was draped with high voltage power lines as well as telephone and cable lines. The lines, he said, were also touching parked cars, a guard rail and a chain-link fence.

Before rescuing the driver, who was unharmed and later released to his father, police and fire officials consulted with Eversource to make sure electricity was no longer flowing, Meehan said.
