Police: Brookfield man used counterfeit bills

A Brookfield resident is charged with using counterfeit money to buy video game equipment, said New York State police.

Aaron Coderre, 25, is charged with a felony count of criminal possession of a forged instrument, and a misdemeanor count of petit larceny, police said.

Police said Coderre purchased the Xbox equipment in Southeast, N.Y. on March 6.

Coderre is being held in Putnam Count Jail in lieu of a $1,500 cash bail or $3,000 bond, police said. He is due in Southeast Town Court on March 31.

 

New Milford cop charged after crash

A New Milford police officer is facing a misdemeanor charge after authorities said he crashed his car and drove away.

Officer Brian Glasser, a former sergeant, was driving Saturday night on Grassy Hill Road in Woodbury when a deer ran in front of his car, causing him to swerve and strike the guardrail on the right shoulder, State Police said.

 

Fire evacuates Danbury hotel

A Thursday afternoon fire that forced a Danbury La Quinta Inn & Suites to be evacuated was put under control as of about 1:45 p.m., according to scanner reports.

The hotel is located at 116 Newtown Road in Danbury and was evacuated at about 1:30 p.m. after the smell of smoke was reported.

 

Plea deal offered in Danbury child abuse case

Details of the proposed deal, which her attorney and a prosecutor discussed with Judge Dan Shaban behind closed doors, was not made public.

After reviewing two weeks’ worth of video from the family’s home security system, authorities said Quilligana had repeatedly abused the 3-year-old and her 1-year-old twin siblings.

Court records do not detail the abuse seen through the older footage, but prosecutors said in past hearings that Quilligana at one point sprayed a liquid substance, possibly nail polish remover, inside the older child’s mouth and ripped hair out of the children’s head

BETHEL — The man who police believe fired the shots that killed his brother-in-law and injured his sister has also died, authorities said.

The triple shooting took place Friday afternoon inside Charles Cristofalo’s home on Governors’ Lane — where he lived with his wife, Ahn, and her brother.

 

Danbury man charged in carjacking attempt

A family traveling about 4 p.m. Sunday was taking a break from driving when 18-year-old Christopher Guaman opened the driver’s side door and threatened the driver with a knife, authorities said.

Police said two state troopers then searched the area and quickly found Guaman, who was taken into custody after a short foot chase.

 

Court records show eviction battle may have led to Bethel shooting

BETHEL — For several months leading up to the triple shooting that shocked a quiet Bethel neighborhood last week, two of the victims were embroiled in an eviction dispute, court records show.

Cristofalo, 76, was found dead after a hang-up call to 911 brought police to his home about 3 p.m.

Bethel Police Chief Jeff Finch said Friday that in addition to the one man who died, another man had life-threatening injuries and a woman was expected to survive her gun shot wounds.

On Saturday, several neighbors described the area as peaceful and many were shocked to see their quiet, dead-end street illuminated with police lights, restricted by checkpoints and littered with yellow police tape surrounding 11 Governor’s Lane Friday night.

“It’s a quiet neighborhood where families don’t lock their doors,” Hunt said while cutting spare wood in his backyard, just steps from the crim

 

Troopers, K-9s patrol Metro-North trains

The enhanced security comes in the same week as two deadly terror attacks, one a coordinated series of bombs at transit stations in Brussels, Belgium and the other a suicide bomb at a soccer match in Iskandariya, Iraq.

“Due to the events in Brussels, troopers continue to remain vigilant while on their patrols — highways, towns and mass transit, for the safety of all,” said Trooper First Class Kelly grant, a spokeswoman for the Connecticut State Police.

 

Another man charged with child sex abuse in Danbury

Tiscia, who’s being held on $250,000 bond, was charged with two counts of first-degree sexual assault, four counts of fourth-degree sexual assault and three counts each of risk of injury to a minor with sexual contact and risk of injury to a minor while impairing the morals of a child.

According to the state Judicial Branch website, he was charged with third-degree larceny and has pleaded not guilty.
