NWS issues ‘freezing spray’ watch for LI Sound

Wind chills are expected as low as minus 30 because temperatures will be 5 to 10 degrees below zero and northwest winds will be blowing between 10 and 20 mph with gusts as high as 35 mph.

The U.S. Coast Guard says the threat of heavy freezing spray is expected to lessen with increasing distance from the coastline as water temperatures are warmer offshore.
