Washington man charged in heroin death

State Police have charged a Washington resident with manslaughter after a 35-year-old man died of a heroin overdose.

Police then applied for a search and seizure warrant with the state Superior Court in Bantam for the man’s Brinsmaid Road home, where they later found assorted drug paraphernalia and several used bags of heroin, according to the report.

State troopers and detectives from the Statewide Narcotics Task Force then began “an extensive, collaborative investigation” into the victim’s death, police said.

 

Cops search for suspect in New Milford stabbing

NEW MILFORD — Local and state police are looking for a suspect in a stabbing that took place Monday night at a motel on Route 7. State Police said detectives from the Western District Major Crime Squad are assisting New Milford police with the investigation.

 

Danbury man sent to jail for tax evasion

Four days after a Danbury man avoided prison in a tax fraud case, his brother and business partner was sent to jail for the same crime.

The pair intentionally understated gross receipts from their business on their federal personal income tax filings between 2008 and 2010, authorities said.

Cops: New Milford man caught with pot, cash, scale

BROOKFIELD — A New Milford man is facing drug trafficking charges after Brookfield police stopped him for traffic violations last week.

Terrio was charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, possession of drug paraphernalia, failure to drive on a proper lane and driving unreasonably fast.

 

Crash sends two to hospital, closes New Milford road

NEW MILFORD — Two people were taken to the hospital in “critical condition” after a one-car crash Monday morning on Route 7, police said.

The accident took place near Squash Hollow Road about 9:30 a.m.

Route 7, also known as Kent Road in that area, was closed for police activity as of 10:20 a.m. Detours are through Squash Hollow Road, police said.

The victims have not been identified. It is not clear what caused the crash.

Danbury police tase shoplifting suspect

Officers were called to the 67 Newtown Road store about 4 p.m. last Monday, Jan. 18, for a larceny complaint.

When they arrived, security personnel had 32-year-old Ricardo Andre in custody for trying to leave the store without paying for $37 worth of clothing and a BB gun, police said.

 

The latest: SW CT under blizzard/winter storm warnings

The southwest Connecticut shoreline is under a blizzard warning Saturday with snow, strong winds and high tides from a strengthening nor’easter. Snow, whipped by gusty winds, now covers most of southern Connecticut with the higher amounts near the shoreline. The blizzard warning - for southern Fairfield and New Haven counties - remains in affect until 7 p.m. Sunday. Heavy snow along with potentially damaging winds, blowing and drifting snow with near-zero visibilities is expected Saturday and Saturday evening.

 

Another delay in Danbury child burning case

Lidia Quilligana, 32, of Danbury, has been held on $1 million bond since her arrest on March 27, 2015 — the day she was seen on video force-feeding a 3-year-old girl, slapping and knocking her to the ground, jumping on her and pressing her hands and leg against a stove burner, according to court records. The international organization works to support child abuse victims and their families and it recently opened a chapter in Newtown.

 

Danbury man avoids prison in tax fraud case

During those years, they failed to accurately report the expenses incurred in running the company, as they paid certain employees in cash and then failed to include those payments on their filed returns, authorities said. [...] during an IRS civil audit, Scott Benincasa submitted a false real estate log and business schedule in an effort to improperly justify previously taken deductions on his 2009 federal personal income tax return, according to court records.
