Danbury man charged with sexual abuse of 11 year old boy

DANBURY — A 55-year-old man was arrested by police this week in connection to the sexual assault of an 11 year old boy in July.

According to police, Baltazar Lopez, of Liberty Street, was charged with fourth-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor after a lengthy investigation into a complaint the department received on July 16. The abuse allegations were investigated by the police department’s Special Victims Unit.

Lopez was being held by police on a $200,000 bond.

 

Newtown teacher who brought gun to school granted probation

DANBURY — Newtown teacher Jason Adams, who was arrested after bringing a gun to school in April, received a special form of probation in Superior Court Thursday after recounting the threatening phone calls he received from conspiracy theorists after the Sandy Hook massacre at the school in 2012.

Adams’ attorney, John Maxwell, told court officials during a hearing Thursday that Adams has purchased the gun and received a permit to carry the weapon after receiving dozens of threatening phone calls and messages through social media from conspiracy theorists claiming the shooting never occurr

 

Police apprehend strong arm robbery suspect

According to police, the victim was walking across West Wooster Street towards Division Wine and Package when the assault and robbery occurred.

Video footage obtained of the attack, police said, shows the suspect speaking with the victim for less than a minute before taking the glasses, reaching into the victim’s pockets and punching the victim in the face.

Georgia gives up extradition request for Sherman fugitive

DANBURY — Georgia parole officials have agreed to end their extradition request for Sherman resident and long time fugitive from justice Robert Stackowitz after reviewing his recent medical history.

Officials with the Georgia State Board of Pardons and Paroles recently granted a medical repreieve for Stackowitz, who fled from a Georgia work camp in 1968 where he was serving time on a robbery charge, after receiving a request from his attorneys.

According to one doctor, Pattis said, his client might only live another two to four years.

 

Ailing Sherman escapee might avoid Georgia prison

Georgia prison officials have accepted a plan to let a Sherman man avoid extradition to the prison system he escaped in 1968 — if Connecticut officials agree to supervise him.

The Georgia State Board of Pardons and Paroles “has granted the medical reprieve and the case is currently being submitted through the interstate compact for his supervision to be with the state of Connecticut,” board spokesman Steve Hayes said in an email.

Car accident closes right lane on I-84 East

NEWTOWN — An accident involving multiple vehicles has shut down the right lane on Interstate-84 East.

According to the state Department of Transportation, the highway was backed up nearly seven miles between exits 8 and 10. The accident occurred around 4:30 p.m. between exits 9 and 10.

 

Probate Judge Landgrebe granted family violence program

Landgrebe turned himself in to police on Aug. 9 after learning there was a warrant for his arrest stemming from a fight he had with a woman at his home the previous day, according to court documents, which did not identify the woman involved.

Judge Landgrebe, who continues to preside over the Housatonic probate district while the case is pending, was charged with strangulation and disorderly conduct.

According to court documents, Landgrebe and the woman got into a fight after returning home from a local bar.

 

Route 116 closed in Ridgefield

While no injuries have been reported due to the accident, emergency crews closed the road while cleaning up the accident.

The driver took out a utility pole during the accident and police said the pole needs to be replaced before traffic can be allowed to access the road.

 

Departments extinguish ‘stubborn’ New Fairfield fire

The homeowner and three firefighters were treated for minor injuries at the site of the flames, but all are OK, New Fairfield Fire Chief Bruce Taylor said.

Departments had to remove the family’s burning car from the garage and bring in heavy equipment to tear the house a part to extinguish the fire.

Police and school officials are taking extra precautions after two attempted child abductions in the last month.
