Three New Milford area shops linked to E. coli outbreak

Three greater New Milford area retailers are believed to have gotten beef from a slaughterhouse associated with an E. coli outbreak, according to the state Department of Public Health. The Sherman IGA in Sherman, the Davis IGA in Kent and the Ox Hollow Farm in Roxbury are all believed to have received “beef, veal and buffalo products that have been recalled by Adams Farm Slaughterhouse, LLC” in Athol, Massachusetts, according to a United States Department of Agriculture press release.

 

New York trooper sees pot plants, makes arrest

According to a statement released by New York State Police, a trooper was driving along East Duncan Hill Road, which is located just over the state lane near Route 22, when he noticed the marijuana plants growing outside on a nearby property.

Police seized more than 100 marijuana plants, according to the statement, and charged New York state resident Joel Clements, 32, with unlawful growing of cannabis, a misdemeanor and second-degree criminal possession of marijuana, a felony.

 

Bethel men charged with stealing mail

According to a statement issued by police, both Dilsa Collado, 43, and Steven Sautner, 27, were charged with sixth-degree larceny after their arrests on Sept. 22.

 

Tanker truck rollover and fire closes I-95

WESTPORT — A tanker truck reported to be carrying sewage crashed off Interstate 95 Wednesday bursting into flames and closing the highway. Officials did not immediately clarify if the victim who died was the driver of the truck or the other vehicle involved in the accident release information the cause of the accident or the condition of the driver.

 

Danbury liquor store selling to teenagers

DANBURY — Police recently issued tickets to six teenagers who they say bought alcohol from a Federal Road liquor store said to be the “go-to” place for high school students.

Police noted that a store employee appeared to have been tipped off early in the investigation that police were in the area yet continued to sell alcohol to minors.

 

Car crashed into school bus in Danbury

DANBURY — A car crashed into a school bus carrying students from Saint Joseph School on Tuesday afternoon, but no one was injured.

The front end of the silver Nissan Sentra was smashed and wedged underneath the Danbury Public Schools bus. The driver said she was not hurt. An officer at the crash also said no one was injured.

 

Fire crews respond to New Milford Staples store

NEW MILFORD — Crews with the local fire department have been able to contain a fire that broke out at Staples on Route 7 this morning.

According to dispatchers, several engines responded to the retail store after a report of an electrical fire in the building. Customers were evacuated while crews responded the the fire.

Authorities said around 10:30 a.m. that the fire appeared to be under control and no major structural damage to the retail store resulted from the blaze.

 

Ridgefield school board to hear capacity study update

Ridgefield, like most districts in the area, is in the midst of an enrollment decline, which has prompted some residents and officials to call for closing a school or redrawing district boundary lines to even out the disbursement of students across the six elementary schools.

Several years ago, the school board targeted 2,000 elementary school students as the threshold that would trigger school closure discussions.

 

Connecticut court dismisses case against Brookfield resident

The state Supreme Court has decided not to rule on the constitutionality of the law used to kick a Brookfield woman out of the Republican Party, bringing to an end a year-long legal battle that roiled town politics. Jane Miller had been expelled last year from the town GOP by Republican Registrar of Voters Thomas Dunkerton, who cited a little-used state statute allowing such actions against members deemed to fail a “good-faith” test.

 

Danbury robbery victim charged with purse snatching

DANBURY — A man who was the victim of a daring downtown robbery this week was himself arrested in connection to a purse that was snatched from a car on Main Street Friday, police said. According to police, the purse was stolen from a car on Main Street early Friday morning around 6:30 a.m. and witnesses described seeing a man investigators later identified as Lucas Viganor, 23. Authorities said that Viganor admitted to police that he both stole the purse and used the victim’s credit cards to purchase abotu $2,000 in merchandise from the pharmacy.
