Bick asks judge not to jail him

Authorities said Bick took money from investors for concert promotions and an online electronics business, promising returns of up to 50 percent, but used the money instead to travel and buy expensive items for himself. Federal prosecutors are seeking an eight-year prison term at sentencing Sept. 30, although the hearing could be delayed while court officials clarify the amount of restitution owed to Bick’s investors.

 

North Fairfield structure fire draws major response

New Fairfield police confirmed that law enforcement and fire fighters had been dispatched to the scene of a major fire.

According to first Selectman Susan Chapman, it is a “fully involved structure fire,” with “multiple towns giving mutual aid.”

 

Fire crew knocks down blaze in Ridgefield

According to Chief Kevin Tappe, the call at around 6 p.m. Wednesday that a split level ranch was engulfed in flames. Because the engine normally assigned to the district was busy on a medical call at Boehringer Ingleheim, Engine One from the downtown manned by Lt. Michael Moore and Firefighter Michael Gesmondi from the downtown station responded to the scene. According to land records, the wood framed house was built in 1964 and included about 1,000 square feet of living space.

 

Police respond to Sherman crash

First responders have been dispatched to a car crash on Atchison Cove Road near Hubbell Mountain road, police said. Connecticut State police could not confirm if there were any injuries, but said an ambulance had been sent to that area.

 

Cops: Repeat burglar from Sherman accused of preying on New Milford church

Jared Cardillo, 41, who appeared Thursday in state Superior Court in Bantam, is accused of stealing a safe from Faith Church on May 28, thus adding a felony third-degree burglary charge to a rap sheet that already includes several burglary convictions. According to court documents, Cardillo was caught on security cameras walking in an open door, ripping the safe from a cabinet and carrying it away.

 

Assault suspect gets high bond

Segunda Guallpa-Tamay, 26, was arrested on Wednesday and charged with first-degree sexual assault, first-degree unlawful restraint and third-degree assault, police said.

According to the arrest warrant affidavit, Guallpa-Tamay cut the woman’s clothes off with scissors before using a roll of duct tape to secure her hands and legs and assaulting her for more than 30 minutes.

 

No one found after car plunged into Candlewood Lake in Danbury

A passerby called police around 9:05 p.m., after seeing the back of the car sticking out of the water, with its lights on, sinking into the lake near the Danbury Town Park boat ramp.

First responders and divers — including teams from Danbury and Brookfield — continued to search around the car, again finding nothing.

 

Increasing wind causing scattered power outages

There are scattered power outages Monday morning caused by fallen trees and branches downed by strong wind from post tropical cyclone Hermine.

Other towns included Norwalk with 82; Stamford, 48; Newtown with 24; Seymour.

 

Departments fight New Milford house fire

NEW MILFORD - Departments are working to put out a house fire on 1 Bradley Lane. The Water Witch Hose Company, Northville Volunteer Fire Department and Gaylordsville Fire Department have the fire under control, but there is no estimate on how long it will take to put out, said Dan Gerow, a volunteer with the Northville department. Gerow said he is not sure how big the fire is at this time.

 

Danbury mayor gives his name to new dog treat

The treat, Mayor Mark’s Munchies, includes local whole wheat flour, eggs, rolled oats, bacon, apples and Wisconsin cheddar cheese. The manufacturer and mayor toyed with the name Boughton’s Bodacious Treats, but settled on Mayor Mark’s Munchies.
