Car thefts reported in Brookfield, Redding

BROOKFIELD — Police are reminding resident not to leave valuables in their cars after a string of car thefts in the region during the past week.

Major Jay Purcell, a spokesman for the police department, said several vehicle break ins occurred on Wednesday afternoon at the parking lot of the Regional YMCA of Western Connecticut.

The cars were unlocked, police said, and items stolen included credit cards that were later used and Target and Best Buy in Meriden where the suspect purchased Play Station 4 consoles.

 

Suspects sought by Bethel, Ridgefield police for lotto theft

According to police, the men, whose images were captured by security cameras, were seen stealing lottory tickets from the Mobil gas station located on Grassy Plain Street in Bethel on Aug. 5.

 

Police ID suspect in Bridgewater home invasion

Trooper Kelly Grant, a spokeswoman for the State Police, said Monday afternoon that an arrest warrant is pending.

Local officials believe the suspects were fleeing from police at the time, unaware that New Milford officers had terminated their pursuit, when they came upon a road closure on Route 133 for utility work.

Officials with the state Department of Transportation said it’s routine to have police stationed at roadblocks throughout the evening hours to provide access for homeowners who live beyond the barriers.

 

Marooned teens rescued from Danbury reservoir

Danbury firefighters rescued four teenagers who were marooned on an island in the West Lake Reservoir Friday afternoon. According to Assistant Chief Mark Omasta, the four boys become stranded after swimming to the island, but one of them was unable to swim back. The fire department used its zodiac rescue boat to retrieve the boys and brought them to shore, Omasta said.

 

Police defend ending chase of Bridgewater home invasion suspect

BRIDGEWATER — State Police began to shift their focus to two stolen vehicles connecticut to a home invasion and shooting early Thursday morning while the manhunt for those responsible continues. Car slams into Danbury train crossing

Dan Aziere, an employee with Gieco who has an office nearby the crossing, said he ran to the aid of the drivers as emergency crews arrived on scene.

Aziere and police officers on the scene were able to get the woman out of the car and her male passenger before the train arrived.

According to Deputy Chief Bernie Meehan with the city’s fire department, both the driver of the SUV and the passenger were transported to Danbury Hospital after reporting minor injuries.

 

Police: Southbury teacher let air out of student’s tires

SOUTHBURY — A Newtown resident and teacher at Pomperaug High School was arrested Monday after police said he let the air out of a students tires in the school’s parking lot.

According to police, Edward Kimble, 52, of Hanover Road, a teacher at the high school, turned himself in on Monday after learning that there was a warrant for his arrest stemming from an incident on June 1.

 

Danbury man released from hospital hours before assaulting officer

Officer Joe Pooler received significant injuries as a result of the assault on Saturday night in front of Jimmy’s Market , according to Mayor Mark Boughton, including jaw injuries and facial wounds but was home resting Monday. Boughton added that investigators have learned Pierre Elhayek, 20, who was charged by police with the assault, was released just hours earlier from Danbury Hospital. Elhayek was charged with second-degree assault, assault on a police officer, breach of peace and first-degree criminal mischief.

 

Danbury police make downtown heroin bust

According to a statement released by the department this morning, detectives with SID executed a search warrant at a Linden Place home, which is located less than half a mile from City Hall in the downtown, after receiving multiple complaints of drug activity in the area.

Cardwell is faced with a number of charges after his arrest including possession of narcotics with intent to sell and interfering with a search warrant.

 

Danbury psychiatrist settles Medicare fraud allegations

According to a statement released from the U.S. Justice Department, Dr. Anton Fry and CPC Associates, which has offices on Hospital Avenue and North Street, were being investigated for Medicare fraud for providing services to patients over the telephone instead of treating the patients in person.

According to the statement, federal authorities were alerted to the situation by a former patient of Fry’s under the Whistleblower status of the federal False Claims Act.
