At courthouse, Danbury man busted on drug charges

Timothy Joyner, of Padanaram Road, was charged with possession of narcotics, possession of narcotics with intent to sell, possession of drug paraphrenailia, possession of a controlled substance and operating a motor vehicle without a license.

On Tuesday members of Danbury Police Department’s Special Investigations Division, with the assistance of the Community Conditions Unit, SWAT team and a department K9 team executed court-authorized search and seizure warrants for the residence located at Padanaram Road, Joyner and his car.

Accident causes major delays on I84

DANBURY - Traffic along Interstate 84 was backed up for several hours this morning after a car in the eastbound lane crossed the medium and slammed into the guardrail on the westbound side of the highway.

According to police, a two car accident at around 6:45 a.m in the eastbound lane near exit 10 caused one of the cars to jump the medium and push out more than 150 feet of guardrail on the other side of the highway.

The fate of Tuxedo Junction is uncertain

DANBURY - The future of the downtown nightclub Tuxedo Junction remains uncertain months after the conviction of its former operator, Ian Bick, on fraud and money-laundering charges. Bick, who took money from investors for concert promotions and other business dealings but used the money for personal expenses, was to be sentenced later this month. Bick has said he had relinquished his ownership in the club in July, but stayed on as an employee to promote the shows through social media accounts.

 

Danbury police seize cocaine, heroin

DANBURY - Detectives with the police department’s Special Investigations Division took more than $31,000 of cocaine off the streets this week during a raid at a suspected dealer’s home.

According to a statement released by police Friday, detectives took Claudio Matrinez-Abreu into custody Thursday after searching both his car and his Ken Oaks home.

 

Woman almost collides with Brookfield police officer, arrested on DUI charges

According to a statement from police, Helene Piel faces several charges in connection to the incident including failure to drive in the proper lane and operating under the influence.

DANBURY - The stabbing that killed Luan Pitol during a brawl three years ago was so violent that it broke a rib and severed an artery, causing massive internal bleeding that quickly led to the 17-year-old’s death, the state’s chief medical examiner testified Tuesday.

Police identify cyclist killed on North Street

Haffa became trapped under the vehicle and fire crews had to use both air bags and emergency jacks to remove him.

Lynn Taborsak, a longtime volunteer with the city’s homeless, said Haffa had spent the past three winters sleeping at the overflow shelter operated by the First Congregational Church.
