Bridgeport health official Warren Blunt dies

BRIDGEPORT—Former city councilman and career public health official Warren Blunt died Friday, according to council president and long time friend Tom McCarthy.

McCarthy described Blunt as a man who pulled himself up by pursuing an education and working hard to rise through the ranks of the city’s Environmental Health Department, eventually becoming the department’s director.

 

2 overdose deaths lead to Bethel man’s arrest

The charges stem from an ongoing statewide initiative targeting narcotics dealers who distribute heroin, fentanyl or opioids that cause death or serious injury to users, federal officials say.

Paul Mignani was arrested Wednesday night on a criminal complaint charing him with possession with intent to distribute, and distribution of, heroin and cocaine.

Thieves hammer into New Milford jewelery store

Wearing masks and gloves, the burglars first broke into an adjoining shoe repair shop.

Once inside the jewelry store, they crawled on the floor to avoid triggering the motion sensors.

The couple say they are more cautious, and they revamped their security system with new motion sensors.

 

Early morning fire breaks out in Bethel house

BETHEL - Firefighters battled a one-alarm house fire early Friday morning on Katrina Circle.

The fire, reported, at 4:54 a.m., is now under control, according to Bethel police.

The extent of damage to the structure is not known at this time.

The fire broke out at a house located at 33 Katrina Circle, a single-family house with 2,259 square feet of living space.

The eight-room house, built in 1985, is assessed at $268,170, according to Bethel property records.

The house is not far from Collis Huntington State Park.

 

Ridgefield accident closes North Salem Road

RIDGEFIELD - Authorities report that a portion of North Salem Road has been closed due to a car crash.

According to police, three cars were involved in an accident on North Salem Road shortly before 9 a.m. Tuesday. Emergency crews were still on scene and no other information is available at this time. Whether any serious injuries resulted from the accident wasn’t immediately known.

Police said at least a portion of the road was closed due to the accident.

 

Snow causing very slick road conditions

By 9:30 a..m., the precipitiation had turned to sleet and freezing rain along the shoreline.

While there have been caused no major accidents, there were dozens of spinouts and fender benders across southwest Connecticut.

Northbound Route 8 in Shelton was partially closed around 9 a.m.

 

New Milford school board passes agreement with paraeducators

United Public Service Employees Union represented the New Milford Board of Education Paraeducators in negotiations for the successor collective bargaining agreement, which governs the paraeducators’ terms and conditions for employment.

In the second year of the contract, employees will be migrated from an existing comp-mix health insurance plan to a high deductible health plan with a health savings account feature.

 

Fatal garbage truck crash closes Route 188 in Southbury

SOUTHBURY - State Police expect that Route 188 will remain closed for at least the next two hours after a fatal two car accident.

Route 188, connecting I-84 with Route 67, is closed southbound due to a fatal two-vehicle crash involving a sanitation truck, State Police said.

Hodge’s attorney disputes the characterization of the pursuit as a “chase,” saying the officer merely “followed” the Explorer and lost sight of it altogether when it turned onto Mountainville Road.
