Accident snarls traffic on I84 in Newtown

NEWTOWN - Traffic is begining to back up along Interstate 84 after a two car accident in the eastbound lane near exit 9.

Police said there are no major injuries to report as a result of the accident, which occured at around 8:45 a.m. The right lane is closed to traffic while emergency crews clear the scene.

 

House fire in New Milford

NEW MILFORD - Members of the town’s fire department are battling a house fire that broke out this afternoon on Carriage Drive.

Officials confirm that there was a working fire at a home on Carriage Drive Monday at around noon and that mutual aid has been requested. Witnesses said the home appeared to be standing after the blaze was under control and that an ambulance was called to the scene.

The town’s fire marshal was also at the home investigating the fire.

More information on the fire and potential injuries was not immediately available.

 

Bethel man uses car as ramming device

Police officers were called to a home on Maple Avenue Monday at around 10 a.m. on reports that someone was ramming one car into another.

Gilbert was taken into custody and charged with operating under the influence, criminal mischief and disorderly conduct.

 

Danbury firefighters battle early morning fire

DANBURY - Firefighters knocked out a blaze that broke out early Monday morning in a home on Sand Pit.

According to a statement released by the fire department, a fire broke out at around 2 a.m. Monday in a one story ranch on Sand Pit Road. The fire was located inside one of the walls and was confined to garage area that’s attached to the home.

A family that lives at the home was not displaced as a result of the fire. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

 

Ridgefield man charged with attempted murder

DANBURY — A 21-year-old Ridgefield man appeared in court Friday charged with attempted murder and first-degree assault. Griffin Lovallo appeared in state Superior Court in Danbury Friday afternoon for what police described as an attempt to murder an “adult woman” with a baseball bat Wednesday afternoon. Both court documents and a Ridgefield Police Department press release did not identify the victim as Lovallo’s mother, instead referring to her as an “adult woman” or redacting her name entirely.

 

Man spends thousands on clothes in Danbury with fraudulent credit card

Lord & Taylor’s security called the police with a suspected larceny and pointed out the man loading several large bags into his car when the officers arrived. Batista is charged with fourth-degree larceny, first-degree forgery, false statement to procure a credit card, illegal use of a credit card, receipt of goods by illegal card use, third-degree identity theft and criminal impersonation.

 

Mild today, then temps drop; some snow in forecast

The National Weather Service says the weather for the next couple of days will bring much colder temperatures, brisk winds and a chance of some snow.

Add a west wind blowing between 11 and 15 mph and gusting to as high as 31 mph, and we’ll have a wind chill between 25 and 30 degrees.

Scattered snow and rain showers are also in the forecast for Sunday night when the temperatures bottom out in the low 20s in places like Danbury.

The low will be around 32 degrees in the coastal cities of Bridgeport, Norwalk, Stamford and Greenwich.

Danbury man arrested on sex assault charges

Police said Luis Fernando Pesantez, 43, was charged with four counts of risk of injury to a minor, first-degree sexual assault, second-degree sexual assault and third degree sexual assault for having contact with two young girls on separate occasions.

Investigators received a complaint on Nov. 9 and subsequently received a warrant for the suspect’s arrest in the case.

 

Car fire in New Milford quickly extinguished

The fire was already spreading to the garage itself when firefighters arrived.

While there was no fire damage to the home, the structure still had severe water and smoke damage, the fire chief said.
