Brookfield man evades road block, arrested for DUI

According to a statement released by the police department, Michael Carroll, 27, of Vista Drive, was charged with operating under the influence, disobeying an officer’s signal and driving on the wrong side of the road for an incident that occurred on Dec. 1

The officer radioed emergency crews further up the street who were working at the accident scene to expect a driver who was attempting to elude police.

 

Danbury man charged with faulty asphalt work

Legrande Cooper, 28, is charged with 11 counts of second-degree larceny and one count of racketeering after a joint investigation with both local police and the state Department of Consumer Protection. Police began a joint investigation with the state officials, authorities said, after they learned about eight cases in the area since 2012 where substandard work was done, resulting in asphalt coming apart shortly after work was completed.

 

Danbury woman involved in police chase dies

An off-duty police officer who saw the truck while working at a construction site on Center Street began to pursue the Explorer in his own vehicle. The officer, who has yet to be identified by police, chased the Explorer nearly two miles to Mountainville Road on the south end of the city when the sports utility vehicle, which was driving at an extremely high rate of speed according to witnesses, lost control, went airborne and rolled several times before coming to rest in a driveway.

 

Body found at Heritage Hotel in Southbury

SOUTHBURY - Police have confirmed that a body was found Monday in the parking lot of the Heritage Hotel and Conference Center.

Authorites said both local police and detectives with the State Police Western District Major Crime Squad are both investigating the scene where the body was located. Police have yet to release an identity of the person or how the individual died.

 

Bobcat found dead on roadside

The state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection says between 20 and 30 vehicle-killed bobcats are collected annually and examined for physical condition, age, and breeding condition.

Bobcats are about two to three times the size of their distant relative, the domestic house cat, and the tracks of a young bobcat are often confused with those left by a roaming house cat.

State Department of Transportation data show about 3,900 vehicles a day use Old Tavern Road and about 9,500 on Orange Center Road.

Danbury police identify driver who fled police

According to court records, an arrest warrant had been issued for Andrea last week after he failed to make a court appearance for previous motor vehicle infractions. A witness who was driving in the opposite direction when the crash happened on said that a sports utility vehicle came at her at a “really high rate of speed,” lost control as it was going around a turn, crashed through a fence and a mailbox, went up the hilly driveway of a home, and “went airborne, and flipped over many times.”

The boy was last seen with his uncle between 2 and 3 p.m. when they were dropped off at a barber shop in Norwalk, police said.

Route 39 in New Fairfield reopens after fatal crash

NEW FAIRFIELD — Local and state officials have confirmed that at least one person was killed during a motor vehicle accident along Route 39 late Thursday afternoon.

Police have not yet released details Friday morning on the crash, which involved a motorcycle and a car along Route 39 near Short Woods Road.

Route 39 was closed to traffic while State Police continue to investigate the scene.

More details are expected later Friday morning.

 

Woman killed in New Milford fire identified

NEW MILFORD - Police have confirmed that local resident Valerie Miller was killed Tuesday when a fire broke out in her Carriage Drive home.

Mayor David Gronbach issued a statement Wednesday acknowledging the hard work by emergency crews including volunteer firefighters and paramedics who responded to a difficult situation.
