Cop hurt in Danbury crash

DANBURY — A week after an off-duty Danbury police officer was hurt in a crash, another city officer was sent to the hospital Wednesday after a car struck his cruiser on Federal Road.

The crash happened about 6:30 p.m. when a man driving a Nissan Murano northbound turned left toward the Interstate 84 ramp, crossing the southbound lane where Officer Jonathan Contreras’ cruiser was, police said.

 

Police seek suspect in Washington attempted burglary

WASHINGTON — Police are searching for a man who was seen on video trying to break into a local store last month.

The man tried to gain entry to Marbledale Citgo at 210 New Milford Turnpike about 11:30 p.m. Oct. 27, police said.

The suspect is described as white, thin and about 5-foot-9 to 6 feet tall. He has brown hair and was wearing metal-rimmed glasses, a gray hooded sweatshirt and light-colored shorts, according to the report.

Abandoned car prompts massive Ridgefield search

Officers became suspicious as soon as they saw the car, Kreitz said, because one passenger door was open, the windows were rolled down, the key was in the ignition, and valuable items were left inside.

Because the area is heavily wooded and it was getting dark and cold, police asked for help from the K-9 units in Bethel and Brookfield as well as a rescue helicopter from Westchester County, Kreitz said.

New York State Police have charged a 30-year-old Putnam County man with sexually abusing a child for several years, according to a news release.

 

Retired cop charged in fatal N.Y. crash

A Putnam County man is facing vehicular homicide charges in a three-car crash that killed a woman in the Mahopac portion of the Town of Carmel over the weekend, New York State Police said.

Police said the driver of the Jeep, a 53-year-old Carmel woman, was pulling out of a parking lot and was turning left onto Route 6 south when she failed to yield to O’Keefe’s car, which was traveling north.

BETHEL — Police have charged a 33-year-old man with sexually assaulting a teenage girl in a hotel room on Route 6.

Following a months-long investigation, Alvarez was charged Tuesday with first-degree sexual assault, risk of injury to a minor and three counts of delivery of alcohol to minors.

 

Lawsuit claims Ridgefield scoutmaster molested 17 boys

A former Ridgefield resident and scoutmaster accused of sexually assaulting 17 scouts and two girls is the subject of a lawsuit filed against Boys Scouts of America.

The 19 plaintiffs say Donald Dennis, who died two years ago, sexually abused them between 1963 and 1975 on camping trips, other outings and scout events, according to the lawsuit.

Police in South Dakota have released a new photo of a former Danbury activist who is wanted for questioning in the suspicious death of a woman he was living with.

Duncan, a self-proclaimed “civil rights investigator and activist,” met Wright six years ago while helping her in a dispute with the Danbury Housing Authority.

 

Cops: Driver in Brookfield crash was drunk

BROOOKFIELD — One of the drivers in a two-car crash on Route 25 last week was intoxicated and had marijuana in his car, police said Tuesday.

Police said Johannessen, who had marijuana and several beer bottles in the vehicle, failed the field sobriety tests and was taken into custody.
