New Milford man sent to jail for bank robbery

Once certain evidence, including fingerprints, was examined at the state laboratory, detectives arrested Jones three weeks after the robbery, police said.

The pair was charged with risk of injury to minors, but Jones’ charge was dropped as part of his plea deal.

 

Pedestrian hit by car in Danbury

DANBURY — A man was struck by a car Wednesday afternoon on White Street.

Assistant Fire Chief Mark Omasta said the pedestrian, who is in his early 20s, was taken to Danbury Hospital with head injuries.

The accident happened in a crosswalk outside the Western Connecticut State University’s midtown campus, across from SoHo Pizza.

Police are investigating.

 

Bethel police retain accreditation status

BETHEL — The town’s police department recently had its accreditation status renewed for four more years.

The voluntary accreditation is a highly-regarded recognition given to select police departments for law enforcement excellence.

Bethel first earned the status in 2007, and again in 2011.

For the latest renewal, a team of CALEA officials visited the Bethel Police Department in August to assess its policies, management, operation and support services.

During the four-year accreditation period, the department must submit annual reports attesting to continued compliance with standards

 

Colley’s larceny case continued

Police say he took more than $53,000 from school funds and received reimbursement for iPads that were never purchased.

Colley, 58, has been charged with three counts of first-degree larceny, and one count each of second-degree larceny, second- and third-degree forgery, defrauding a public community and conspiracy to commit larceny.

 

PD: Woman stormed Danbury bar, threatened patrons

DANBURY — A city woman was arrested for the fourth time in three months last week after a disturbance at a downtown restaurant, where police said she threatened “to shoot everyone inside.”

Carouther was charged with first-degree criminal trespass, third-degree criminal mischief, interfering with an officer, second-degree breach of peace and criminal attempt at third-degree assault.

 

School board chairman hit by car in downtown Bethel

BETHEL — The chairman of the district’s Board of Education was struck by a car Friday evening during the annual tree lighting ceremony in downtown Bethel.

“I hope I didn’t mess up Santa’s arrival and the tree lighting for the hundreds of people who participated in this Bethel Winterfest event at the culmination of a beautiful Thanksgiving weekend,” he wrote.

 

Cops: Dog killed in Bethel drunk driving crash

BETHEL — Police said a Naugatuck driver was intoxicated when she caused a crash that killed a dog and sent two people to the hospital Sunday afternoon.

Kayla Lashway, 31, was driving a Jeep Wrangler about 2 p.m. when she hit a Dodge Caravan on the corner of School Street and P.T. Barnum Square, police said.

 

Bethel police to host tours ahead of town meeting

BETHEL — The town’s police department will host an open house ahead of the Dec. 8 special town meeting on the new police station proposal.

Tours of the existing building will be offered from 4 to 7 p.m. next Friday, with an informational session at 6 p.m. During that session, the chief and other commanding officers will be available to answer questions about the $14.5 million plan.

 

Danbury club owner found guilty of wire fraud and money laundering

Ian Bick, 20, owner of the downtown Danbury nightclub Tuxedo Junction was found guilty on six counts of wire fraud and one court of money laundering by a jury Wednesday in U.S. District Court in New Haven.

Bick, 20, was charged in January on a 15-count indictment: 11 counts of wire fraud; three counts of money laundering and one count of making a false statement.

A mistrial was declared on three courts of wire fraud and one count of money laundering that the jury could not reach a verdict on, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in New Haven.

 

Crash kills man, injures another in Danbury

Police said Darel Peck, 56, of Knollcrest Road, was driving north near the New Fairfield town line about 7 p.m. when his Volkswagen Jetta veered into the southbound lane and struck a Nissan VRS.

Officer Lance Brevard of the Danbury Police Department’s traffic division is investigating the accident with Sgt. Rory DeRocco.
