Cops: Danbury man sexually abused 8-year-old

Carl Alcala, 58, has been charged with three counts each of first-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor.

Last Friday, police arrested Arturo Hernandez, 36, on charges of fourth-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor for the alleged abuse of an 11-year-old girl.

 

Cops: Bethel man charged with DUI after driving through red light in Westport

A man who police said failed to stop at a red traffic light early last Saturday at the intersection of Post Road East and the Sherwood Island Connector was charged with driving under the influence. Bryant Infantas, 41, of Shelley Road in Bethel, was charged after an officer on patrol saw his car drive through the red light and onto a grassy median, police said.

 

Ex-Newtown sergeant pleads guilty to selling steroids

NEWTOWN — A former Newtown police sergeant has admitted to illegally distributing steroids and prescription drugs, the U.S. Department of Justice said Wednesday in a news release.

The investigation, dubbed “Operation Juice Box,” began in 2014 after federal authorities received an anonymous letter with a sample of Santucci’s steroids, according to court records.

 

Cops: Danbury drunk driver had two DWI convictions

NORTH SALEM, N.Y. — A Danbury man charged with driving while intoxicated following a hit-and-run crash Monday had two DWI convictions, New York State Police said.

Vivar, who police said was twice convicted of DWI, was taken into custody on the felony charges and is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 21.

 

PD: Danbury mom went shopping, left baby in car

DANBURY — A mother was arrested Monday after police said she left her 2-year-old daughter alone in the car while she went shopping.

Officers were called to the parking lot of Walmart, 67 Newtown Road, about 12:30 p.m. for a suspicious person complaint.

 

Woman charged in Danbury shooting

Through a “tenacious investigation,” police said they determined 19-year-old Manuela Aleman, of Danbury, drove the alleged shooter and another accomplice to the Bronx, N.Y., after the shooting.

Chadee-Sierra was arrested Nov. 16 on charges of criminal attempt to commit murder, first-degree assault and risk of injury to a minor.

 

Bethel’s police station plan heads to the polls

On that day, taxpayers will be asked to vote “yes” or “no” to authorize officials to build a new police station on a town-owned property south of Bethel High School at Judd Avenue and Route 302.

Among dozens of taxpayers who filled the municipal center’s general purpose room for Tuesday’s meeting was Scott Perry, a former member of the Public Site and Building Committee.

Officials say the existing police station on Plumtrees Road has become too small, has asbestos in the ceiling and walls, no longer complies with environmental regulations and often floods during heavy rain.

Two cops hurt in Danbury deck collapse

DANBURY — Two Danbury police officers were injured when a deck collapsed Saturday on Cross Street.

The two officers were called to a house to check on a suspicious activity about 1 p.m., police said. As they stepped on a second-floor deck, the deck separated from the house and both officers and deck fell to the ground, according to the report.

The officers were taken to Danbury Hospital and released the same day.

One of them was treated for minor injuries and the other sustained shoulder and neck injuries, police said.

 

Danbury cop hit by car

DANBURY — A police officer was struck by a car while directing traffic in a construction zone Tuesday morning.

Police said she was wearing her traffic safety apparel during the accident.

 

Man struck by beam in Danbury

DANBURY — A construction worker was struck by a beam Tuesday afternoon on Cedar Drive, according to the Danbury Fire Department.

The accident happened outside a home under construction by Candlewood Lake about 2:40 p.m., Assistant Fire Chief Omasta said.

The victim was extricated, but was still unconscious as he was taken to Danbury Hospital, Omasta said. His condition was not known late Tuesday afternoon.

Danbury police and a representative from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration were on the scene investigating.

No more information was immediately available.
