Officers became suspicious as soon as they saw the car, Kreitz said, because one passenger door was open, the windows were rolled down, the key was in the ignition, and valuable items were left inside. Because the area is heavily wooded and it was getting dark and cold, police asked for help from the K-9 units in Bethel and Brookfield as well as a rescue helicopter from Westchester County, Kreitz said.
