Tractor-trailer crash closes lanes on I-84

SOUTHBURY — Two lanes were closed on eastbound Interstate 84 late Wednesday morning after a tractor-trailer crash.

The accident happened about 11 a.m. between exits 15 and 16.

Traffic delays were reported as far as exit 13.

No details were immediately available.

 

Woman ejected from car in Southbury crash

SOUTHBURY — A woman who police said was not wearing a seat belt was ejected from an SUV that rolled over on Interstate 84 in Southbury early Sunday morning.

State Police said the driver — Craig Templeton, 57, of Wells, Maine — was traveling westbound on I-84 when the car left the roadway for an unknown reason, veered into the grass median and overturned across the roadway.

 

Police: Inmate threw urine on Newtown correction officer

The suspect, Adal Osorio, 32, is being held at the institute as he awaits trial on felony charges of possession of a weapon at a corrections institution and assault, according to the state Judicial Branch website.

After an investigation into the urine incident, police charged Osorio with assault on public safety personnel and failure to submit to fingerprinting.

 

Danbury man shot in the groin

DANBURY — A city man was shot in the groin at a School Ridge Road home Thursday night, police said.

When officers arrived at the house about 8:40 p.m., they found the 18-year-old victim with a gunshot wound near his right leg, according to the report.

On Sunday morning, a man accidentally shot himself in the arm during a fight with his sister’s boyfriend, according to police.

 

Cops: Man arrested for fleeing Bethel police

While they were examining his license and registration paperwork, the driver fled at a high rate of speed, resulting in several 911 calls about a car driving recklessly through town, police said.

Since officers had his identification, they did not pursue him and later applied for an arrest warrant, which was issued in October.

 

Bikers turn out to support family in child burning case

The nanny, Lidia Quilligana, was arrested March 27 after she was seen on video force-feeding a 3-year-old girl, slapping and knocking her to the ground, jumping on her and pressing her hands and leg against a stove burner, according to court records.

After reviewing two weeks of video from the family’s home security system, authorities said Quilligana repeatedly abused the girl and her 1-year-old twin siblings.

Danbury brothers plead guilty to tax charges

From 2008 to 2010, brothers David and Scott Benincasa intentionally understated gross receipts from their business on their federal personal income tax filings, the U.S. Department of Justice said Thursday in a news release.

In pleading guilty, Scott Benincasa also admitted that, during an Internal Revenue Service audit, he submitted a false real estate log and business schedule “in an effort to improperly justify previously taken deductions” on his 2009 tax return, according to the release.

 

Danbury drug bust turns up crack, heroin, pot

DANBURY — Five people were arrested Wednesday after a drug raid at a Padanaram Road housing complex, where police said they found “a substantial amount” of crack cocaine, heroin, marijuana and cash.

Police planned the operation after receiving several complaints from residents regarding drug activity and sales at Brookside Condominiums.

 

Danbury woman arrested after leaving child home alone

Blanca Parra, 45, told police she had to work and tried to make arrangements with a family member to watch the child, but the plans fell through, according to the report.

 

High-speed Danbury crash sends three to hospital

DANBURY — Police are investigating a serious one-car accident that sent three people to the hospital Tuesday night.

A Nissan Versa was traveling eastbound on James Street about 8 p.m. when the driver lost control of the car, which then left the roadway, went partially airborne, struck a stone pillar and finally flipped on its side at the corner of Holley Street Extension, police said.
