Brookfield road to close for construction

Police said the road will be closed from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays to allow for construction of a water pipeline up the hill and through the sharp curves in the roadway.

The duration of the closure will depend on how much rock is found as the trench is dug, police said.

 

Fire destroys New Milford hay barn

NEW MILFORD — A fire Sunday destroyed a hay barn and the farm equipment stored in it on Ridge Road in New Milford.

The barn was being rented by Bridgewater dairy farmer Dan Weed, who lost a tractor, milking machines and the barn full of baled hay.

Water Witch Hose Co. No. 2 Fire Chief Jim Ferlow said the fire call was received about 3:57 p.m.

 

Ex-Newtown dispatcher expected to plea guilty to selling steroids

The man authorities describe as the primary distributor of steroids and prescription drugs for a former Newtown police sergeant is expected to plea guilty Monday.

The alleged leader of the steroid ring is Steven Santucci, a longtime Newtown police sergeant who resigned after his arrest in the spring.

 

State Police seek Roxbury burglary suspect

When a burglary alarm activated shortly after 1 p.m., troopers arrived at the house to find that several items had been stolen, according to a news release.

Police said troopers collected evidence, including surveillance video showing the suspect and a suspect car, and interviewed several witnesses.

 

Bethel officials consider options for police station

The long-delayed project, which calls for a new building for the police department adjacent to Bethel High School at Judd Avenue and Whittlesey Drive, lost by 69 votes of the nearly 1,800 cast in the referendum.

PD: Bethel man gave brother’s name during arrest

BETHEL — A Rockwell Road man gave police his brother’s name after he was arrested for urinating inside a 7-Eleven store on Route 6, authorities said.

Police said they later learned the wrong man had been charged and applied for a warrant for Phelps’ arrest, which was issued this week.

 

Cops: Man threatened to shoot people at Brookfield church

BROOKFIELD — A local man terrified parishioners Saturday at a Roman Catholic church, threatening to shoot them during a baptism ceremony, police said.

Ducanic was charged Saturday with first-degree criminal trespass, second-degree breach of peace and interfering with an officer.

 

PD: Man passed fake $100 bills in Danbury

A manager then showed police still images of the store’s surveillance camera so they could identify the suspect, police said.

While talking to him, officers learned Salam went to several other different stores — including Dick’s Sporting Goods, Uniqlo, Children's Place, Hollister, Abercrombie & Fitch, and Cotton On — and paid for small items with counterfeit $100 bills, police said.

 

Stolen Newtown car found abandoned in Bridgeport

NEWTOWN — A Mercedes SUV that was reported stolen from a Hanover Road driveway last weekend was found Friday morning in Bridgeport, police said.

The car was abandoned and no suspects have been identified, according to police.

The 2007 Mercedes GL450 was unlocked with the keys inside when it was taken sometime between 7 and 10 p.m. on Oct. 2, police said.

The case is under investigation.

 

Cops: Man in Bethel crash charged with DUI

BETHEL — A Rockwell Road man was arrested Wednesday night after police said his alcohol level was three times the legal limit when he crashed into another car.

No one was injured in the accident, which happened about 9 p.m. Plumtrees Road and Maple Avenue, but both cars had heavy front-end damage, police said.
