Danbury cop accused of breaking into cars

DANBURY — A city police officer is on administrative leave after being arrested in New York in connection with a series of vehicle break-ins, officials said Wednesday.

Ramos, who has been an officer in Danbury since 2012, was placed on paid administrative leave “due to the seriousness of the charges and to protect the integrity of the Danbury Police Department,” the agency said in a statement.

 

Pedestrian hurt in Danbury hit and run

DANBURY — Police are searching for a driver who struck a pedestrian Wednesday morning outside the Western Connecticut State University campus on White Street, authorities said.

The victim, who appears to be between 18 and 20 years old, sustained a head injury but was conscious when the ambulance arrived, Assistant Fire Chief Mark Omasta said.

 

Danbury man charged with DUI after overnight chase

Officers were called about 3:30 a.m. to the corner of Barnum Court and Patch Street, just blocks away from the police station, for a noise disturbance.

Ortiz was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, evading responsibility, interfering with an officer, disobeying an officer’s signal, disorderly conduct and third-degree criminal mischief.

 

PD: ‘Combative’ Danbury man fought officers twice in a week

DANBURY — A Morris Street man was arrested twice this week after two bizarre incidents at a restaurant and a hair salon, police said.

Vicente Penafiel-Buenano, 22, is being held on a $25,000 bond on felony assault charges for punching an officer, trying to bite another, trying to urinate on a bar floor, among other allegations, police said.

Including both incidents, Penafiel-Buenano has been charged with three counts each of assault on emergency personnel and interfering with an officer; two counts of first-degree criminal trespass; and one count each of third-degree assault, third-degree

 

Cops: Danbury store employee caught with stolen items, heroin

DANBURY — An employee at HomeGoods was arrested this week after she was caught with heroin and stolen merchandise on her way out of the department store, police said.

Police said the manager then found six folds of heroin, drug paraphernalia and several unpaid items in her purse.

 

Woman hurt in three-car crash in Danbury

DANBURY — A driver was taken to the hospital Thursday morning after a three-car crash on South Street.

The accident happened about 8:30 a.m. near the corner of Main Street.

Assistant Fire Chief Mark Omasta said the air bag in the victim’s convertible car was deployed.

No other injuries were reported in that crash, but a second accident happened in the same area less than hour later.

Omasta said another person was taken to Danbury Hospital, but details about the accident were not immediately available.

 

Rollover crash closes Route 7 in Ridgefield

RIDGEFIELD — A rollover crash Wednesday morning has closed Route 7 near Route 102, police said.

The accident happened just before 11 a.m.

No other information was immediately available.

 

Crash closes lanes on I-84 in Danbury

DANBURY — A three-vehicle crash closed two lanes between exits 6 and 7 on westbound Interstate 84 Wednesday morning.

The left-lane accident, which involved a tractor trailer and two cars, happened about 8:15 a.m. The lanes re-opened shortly after 9 a.m.

Assistant Fire Chief Mark Omasta said two people were taken to the hospital, but the extent of their injuries were not immediately known.

 

Woman hit by car in Newtown

NEWTOWN — A woman was taken to the hospital Tuesday evening after being struck by a car on Summit Road, according to the Newtown Hook Ladder Volunteer Fire Company.

The accident happened just before 6 p.m.

The pedestrian, who suffered leg injuries, was possibly dragged by the car, according to scanner reports. Details on the accident were not immediately available.

 

Brookfield police warn of power scam

The scammers tell business owners that they have an outstanding balance with the utility company and must make a payment immediately, police said.
