Cops: Danbury driver found asleep, with beer and vodka in the car

BETHEL — A Danbury woman was arrested last week after police said they found her asleep behind the wheel with several bottles of alcohol in the car.

Police said there was an open bottle of Angry Orchard beer and two small bottles of Smirnoff vodka inside the car.

 

Danbury bar fight nets four arrests

After reviewing surveillance video from the bar, officers learned the fight began as an argument between the victim and Jonathan Soto, 26, of Ashe Place.

Soto, Lesure and Fermin were each charged with second-degree assault, second-degree conspiracy to commit assault, interfering with an officer, and breach of peace.

Castillo was charged with third-degree conspiracy to commit assault and was released on a promise to appear in court on Nov. 3.

 

PD: Teens broke into Danbury liquor store

DANBURY — Two teenagers were arrested overnight after police said they broke into a South Street liquor store.

The boys, a 16-year-old Bethel resident and a 15-year-old from Danbury, broke the front glass window at Spirits ‘n’ Such about 2 a.m. Wednesday, police said.

 

Overturned truck blocks traffic in Danbury

The driver drove off Pembroke Road, struck a stone wall and overturned around 2:30 p.m. Fire crews treated spilled liquids on the road and the road was reopened around 3 p.m. once the truck was righted by a tow truck, Deputy Fire Chief Mark Omasta said.

 

Danbury police identify man found dead in tent

A friend of the man, who first found the body that night, told police the victim was homeless and lived in the tent.

The cause of death will be determined after a toxicology report, which police said could take six weeks or more.

 

Cops: Patient caught with drugs, pot brownies at Danbury Hospital

DANBURY — A patient at Danbury Hospital is facing drug charges after he was found with marijuana, marijuana brownies and controlled substances, police said.

Nunez was charged with possession of controlled substances, possession of controlled substances with intent to sell, possession of controlled substances within 1,500 feet of a school, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of drug paraphernalia within 1,500 feet of a school.

 

Teen struck by car in Danbury

DANBURY — A 15-year-old boy was hit by a car on Padanaram Road, according to scanner reports.

The accident happened about 3 p.m. in front of a Subway restaurant at 23 Padanaram Road.

The victim was conscious when emergency crews arrived, dispatchers said.

Danbury man killed in motorcycle crash

State Police said the motorcycle veered off the left side of the road and struck the concrete bridge rail.

The man was thrown form the motorcycle and landed on the southbound shoulder of the highway, the report said.

 

Cops: Danbury woman arrested with arrows in pants

DANBURY — A city woman is facing larceny charges after she was caught stuffing hunting arrows into her pants inside a Walmart store last week, police said.

Walmart employees also saw Pearson’s alleged accomplice, Victoria Beninson, conceal nearly $100 worth of clothing items and try to leave without paying, police said.

 

Ex-Danbury cop acquitted in assault and threatening case

DANBURY — More than two years after former police officer Christopher Belair was caught on video yelling profanities at an undocumented immigrant during a traffic stop, a jury on Thursday found him not guilty of the criminal charges that resulted.

Belair, 35, of Waterbury, had been charged with third-degree assault and second-degree threatening following a monthslong State Police investigation, which began when Rene Chalco told internal affairs officers Belair had not only verbally abused him but punched him in the mouth in the March 2013 incident.
