Driver escapes injury in Danbury truck rollover

DANBURY — A driver walked away uninjured after his box truck rolled over Tuesday afternoon on Division Street.

Assistant Fire Chief Mark Omasta said the truck’s load shifted when the driver turned left from West Street into Division Street about 2 p.m.

The truck was carrying rubber mulch, Omasta said.

A section of Division Street was closed for two hours until the truck was towed.

The driver was the only person in the truck.

 

Motorcyclist hurt in New Milford crash

NEW MILFORD — A motorcyclist suffered serious injuries after a three-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon on Route 109, police said.

The road was closed between Wellington Drive and Dorset Drive for two and a half hours while police and fire crews investigated the crash, which happened about 2 p.m.

The motorcyclist was taken to Danbury Hospital with what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries, according to the report.

Police have not released details on the crash.

 

Pair charged in midday heroin deal in Danbury

DANBURY — Two city residents were caught with heroin Wednesday after officers saw them in a hand-to-hand drug deal on Maple Avenue, police said.

Officers in an unmarked cruiser were patrolling the downtown area about 12:15 p.m. when they saw Andrew Garcia, 41, sell heroin to GeorgeAnn Zotynia, 39, near the train tracks, according to the report.

Zotnyia was charged with possession of a controlled substance and was released on a promise to appear in court Sept. 15.

Garcia was charged with selling narcotics and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was held on a $25,000 bond.

 

Danbury woman sent to jail for helping home invaders

Authorities say the eight men and two women wore masks, carried guns and broke into homes of drug dealers to steal cash and narcotics.

Danbury police and the Drug Enforcement Administration began investigating the group in 2013 after learning that it maintained several drug distribution sites, known as trap houses, out of which they sold crack cocaine and heroin.

During the probe, officials learned the group had invaded and robbed the homes of several marijuana dealers in the Danbury area.

Family in Danbury child burning case faces more hurdles

DANBURY — As the case against a nanny facing numerous counts of child abuse slowly moves through the court, the three children she is accused of beating and burning remain on a long road to recovery, according to a family friend of the victims.

The 32-year-old Danbury resident was arrested March 27 after she was seen on video force-feeding the older child, slapping her and knocking her to the ground, jumping on her and pressing her hands and leg to a stove burner, according to court records.

Two charged with selling crack, heroin in Danbury

Police began an investigation several months ago in response to complaints that Yochanan Levitansky, 28, of New Haven, was selling illegal drugs throughout the Danbury area, according to a news release.

Based on a surveillance of Levitansky, which revealed activity consistent with drug trafficking, a Danbury Superior Court judge issued a search warrant, police said.

 

Danbury road rage complaint leads to cocaine bust

DANBURY — A driver was caught with a large amount of cocaine after a road rage incident Sunday afternoon, police said.

Davis, of Lyon St., was charged with possession of narcotics, possession of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell and possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell within 1,500 feet of a school.

 

Danbury man faces drug trafficking charges

DANBURY — A city man is facing felony drug charges after he was caught with marijuana and packaging materials in his car early Friday morning, police said.

A resident on Robinson Avenue called police about 2:30 a.m. to report a suspicious car parked illegally for some time with two people inside, according to police.

 

Newtown school bus struck by car

NEWTOWN — A convertible car struck a parked school bus on the first day of school Thursday morning.

There were no children on the bus, but a passenger in the car sustained a laceration, according to the Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company.

The accident happened on Church Hill Road near Washington Avenue.

It is not clear whether the driver is facing charges. Police have not released any information on the case.

 

New Fairfield man charged with DUI after crash

Police said a computer check showed his license was suspended and he was banned from driving without an interlock ignition device, which is designed to prevent drivers from starting a car when intoxicated, because of prior DUI convictions.

Vohra, of Woodridge Lane, New Fairfield, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, illegal operation of a motor vehicle without interlock ignition device, evading responsibility, driving under suspension and failure to drive right.
