Vehicle stolen at University Hospital

A vehicle was stolen Friday from the emergency room parking lot at Augusta’s University Hospital, police say.
According to an incident report, a 24-year-old woman arrived at University Hospital at 4:40 p.m. to bring a friend for an evaluation. About four hours later, she left the hospital and found her 2012 Hyundai Elantra missing.
Inside it was $150, a laptop, office paper and 25 pairs of women’s shoes valued at $50 each.
Law enforcement is reviewing surveillance video.

 

Furyk cards 58, lowest round in PGA Tour history

CROMWELL, Conn.  — Jim Furyk set a PGA Tour record Sunday, shooting a 58 during the final round of the Travelers Championship.
The 46-year-old American got it going early, making his first birdie on his second hole at the TPC River Highlands course, then holing out for an eagle from 135 yards on the par-4 third hole. He finished his first nine holes in a course-record 27 shots.

 

Officials tout progress of road construction projects

Aiken accident kills woman, 57

 
A 57-year-old woman died Saturday from injuries suffered in a motorcycle accident.
Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton said Bette A Lucas was pronounced dead at Palmetto Richland Health in Columbia at 2:12 p.m. Saturday.
Lucas was operating a 2004 Honda XL1200C motorcycle with a group and was attempting to make a left turn into 1301 Wagener Trail Road when she was struck by 2003 Ford Explorer attempting to pass several other motorcycles, Carlton said.

 

Ga.man dies when saw cuts neck

FORSYTH, Ga. — An official says the death of an employee at a Georgia waste water treatment plant was an accident.

The Macon Telegraph reports that 52-year-old James Kip Evans died Friday after cutting his neck while cutting pipes with a chop saw at the Utility Partners plant in Monroe County.

Robber sets Ga. woman, 83, on fire

GRANTVILLE, Ga. — Authorities say an 83-year-old Georgia woman was badly burned and critically injured during an attempted robbery at her home in Meriwether County.

The Newnan Times-Herald reports that Dorothy Dow told police four men and one woman woke her late Thursday night, demanding money. Meriwether County Sheriff Chuck Smith says when Dow told the group she didn’t have any, one person hit Dow across the face with a gun and another poured a flammable liquid on Dow and set her on fire.

 

SC theives steal $20,000 in guns

SUMTER, S.C. — Authorities say two thieves stole about $20,000 in guns from a Sumter store in a well-planned heist that took less than four minutes.

Sumter County Sheriff’s spokesman Ken Bell told media outlets that he men broke the lock on the door of Tony’s Gun Shop around 2 a.m. Friday.

Video surveillance shows one thief smashing display cases with a hammer while a second thief scooped up handguns and threw them into a bag.

 

Richmond deputy charged in domestic dispute

A Richmond County sheriff's deputy was arrested early Saturday following a domestic disturbance.
According to a statement released by the Sheriff's Office, Deputy Danafrey Clanton was taken into custody after deputies responded to a residence in the 3500 block of Crawfordville Drive about 3:20 a.m.
Deputies determined Clanton was the primary aggressor in the dispute and he was charged with misdemeanor battery and misdemeanor criminal trespass. He is on administrative leave pending an investigation.

 

Number of child shooting cases worry authorities

 
Police are seeing a troubling trend.
Last week’s shooting of a small child by another child playing with a gun is at least the third case of children being shot accidentally this year, according to Richmond County sheriff’s officials.
“I can think of three (cases) in the past several months,” Maj. Steven Strickland said shortly after the incident. “They’ve all been young children.”

 

Child sexually assaulted in woods

Columbia County authorities are looking for the man who sexually assaulted a 10-year-old girl in a wooded area near Ridge Crossing apartments on Wednesday.
According to a sheriff’s office bulletin, the child, who is autistic, was walking near the apartments when she was approached by a male, who took her into the woods, where she was sexually assaulted.
