Following a thorough investigation, the suspicious item was determined to be non-threatening and Savannah River Site has returned to normal operations, according to a news release.

The committee to evaluate petroleum pipelines in Georgia will hold a public hearing in Columbia County on Thursday.
The hearing at 10 a.m. in the auditorium of Building A at the Evans Government Center Complex at 630 Ronald Reagan Drive is the second of three the Joint State Commission on Petroleum Pipelines are holding. The first was held last month in Savannah and the final is scheduled Nov. 17 in Atlanta.

After increasing its graduation rate from 2014 to 2015, Richmond County public schools took a step back in 2016.
According to the Georgia Department of Education, 76.7 percent of Richmond County students graduated in 2016 – down from 77.6 percent in 2015. In Columbia County, 89 percent of students graduated, up from 87.6 percent a year ago.
Statewide, Georgia graduated 79.2 percent of its students last year.

An agreement has been reached on treating more than 36 million gallons of radioactive and toxic liquid waste stored in aging Savannah River Site tanks.
The Department of Energy and South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control announced the agreement today, according to a DOE news release. Under the agreement, SRS will process the liquid waste starting this year through 2022 to mitigate the delay in startup of the Salt Waste Processing Facility.
