Harvard woman pleads guilty to drug delivery linked to overdose death

A 46-year-old Harvard woman pleaded guilty on Wednesday to delivering drugs to a man who later died of an overdose.

Tiera Tracy entered a blind guilty plea Wednesday to delivery of a controlled substance – a felony typically punishable by four to 15 years in prison.

A 16-year-old Harvard Community Unit School District 50 student may face criminal charges for allegedly threatening a teacher with a box cutter, Harvard police said Wednesday.

Company mum on details about airing of Bill Murray-Jeep commercial filmed on Woodstock Square

Many stood in the historic Woodstock Square on Saturday, watching as actor Bill Murray – star of the film "Groundhog Day" – returned to the city to shoot what reportedly was a commercial for Jeep.

However, the company that owns Jeep is staying mum about the details.

In a statement posted on its website on Wednesday, its parent company, FCA US, said the Jeep brand will debut one 60-second commercial during this Sunday’s Super Bowl game telecast.

Drug-related deaths decrease among former Kane County Jail inmates, sheriff's officials say

ST. CHARLES – Overdose deaths among former Kane County Jail inmates decreased in 2019, after Kane County Sheriff Ron Hain implemented programming to help the inmates deal with their addictions while incarcerated.

According to a news release from the sheriff’s office, Hain saw the need for substance abuse treatment while inmates were in jail because of the number of overdose deaths in recent years.

 

Crystal Lake crash results in non-life threatening injuries

The Crystal Lake Police and Fire departments responded to a two-vehicle crash Wednesday evening at the intersection of Route 31 and Three Oaks Road.

Crystal Lake Police Sgt. Ryan Coutre said a truck was traveling northbound on Route 31 when it tried to go west on Three Oaks.

 

Virus cases in China top SARS as evacuations begin

BEIJING (AP) — Countries began evacuating their citizens Wednesday from the Chinese city hardest-hit by a new virus that has now infected more people in China than were sickened in the country by SARS.

The number of confirmed cases jumped to 5,974, surpassing the 5,327 in mainland China during the SARS outbreak in 2002-2003.

The death toll rose to 132, which is still lower than the 348 people who were killed in China by SARS, or severe acute respiratory syndrome.

Senate bill would outlaw live animal prizes at carnivals

It is a mainstay of fairs and carnivals around the country: sink a ping pong ball into a fish bowl and win the goldfish swimming inside.

But if a bill in the Illinois Senate becomes law, carnivals would no longer be allowed to award live animals – such as fish, reptiles and hermit crabs – as prizes.

Plane crash killed former Springfield mayor, coroner

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — Former Springfield, Illinois, Mayor Frank Edwards and his wife, Sangamon County Coroner Cinda Edwards, were two of the three people killed when a small plane crashed in a central Illinois field, authorities said Wednesday.

The crash Tuesday also killed John Evans, 69, of Glenarm, said Jim Allmon, chief deputy coroner for Sangamon County.

Edwards, 69, was appointed mayor by the Springfield City Council in December 2010 after the death of Mayor Tim Davlin.
