Groundhog Days Festival kicks off its 27th annual celebration with a host of activities only days after actor Bill Murray filmed a “Groundhog Day-”related Jeep commercial on the Woodstock Square in time for the critter’s emergence this weekend.

The Awakening of the Groundhog is set for 6 p.m.

WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump unveiled his long-awaited Mideast peace plan Tuesday alongside a beaming Benjamin Netanyahu, presenting a vision that matched the Israeli leader’s hard-line, nationalist views while falling far short of Palestinian ambitions.

Trump’s plan envisions a disjointed Palestinian state that turns over key parts of the West Bank to Israel.

No injuries reported in 3-vehicle Bull Valley crash

No injuries were reported after a three-vehicle crash occurred on Tuesday morning in Bull Valley, according to a fire official.

Capt. Karen Bush of the Woodstock Fire/Protection District said emergency crews responded to the crash at 10:50 a.m. at the intersection of County Club and McConnell roads.

Bush said that an SUV sustained minor damage and a pickup truck and sedan that also were involved both sustained moderate damage. Regardless, there were no injuries to the three drivers inside those vehicles.

McHenry County Board may hold off on health benefit elimination vote for broader compensation debate

A vote to eliminate health insurance benefits for McHenry County Board members may be delayed to allow for a deeper conversation about elected officials' compensation as it relates to the future size of the County Board.

Following a two-hour-long Committee of the Whole meeting, McHenry County Board Chairman Jack Franks said a conversation about further reducing the size of the McHenry County Board – which the board voted in September to reduce from 24 members to 18 – should precede any discussions about compensation packages for elected officials.

 

'You looked pretty violent beating the dog,' witness testifies at trial for McHenry man accused of beating dog with garbage can

A former McHenry man was acquitted Tuesday of one of three charges rooted in claims that he beat his dog with a garbage can lid in 2017.

Representing himself in court Tuesday, 49-year-old Michael Braun successfully argued that prosecutors failed to show that he neglected his duties as a pet owner. Additional misdemeanor charges of animal cruelty and disorderly conduct remain.
