A vote to eliminate health insurance benefits for McHenry County Board members may be delayed to allow for a deeper conversation about elected officials' compensation as it relates to the future size of the County Board. Following a two-hour-long Committee of the Whole meeting, McHenry County Board Chairman Jack Franks said a conversation about further reducing the size of the McHenry County Board – which the board voted in September to reduce from 24 members to 18 – should precede any discussions about compensation packages for elected officials. “I think getting to 12 is the way to go and at that point I think we’ll be able to save a lot more money for the citizens but also be a lot more efficient,” Franks said.
