BEIJING (AP) — The U.S. State Department is advising against all travel to China because of the outbreak of a new virus.

The advisory says: “Those currently in China should consider departing using commercial means. The Department of State has requested that all non-essential U.S.

Those looking would be hard-pressed to find someone who loved the city of Crystal Lake more than former councilman Ralph Dawson, Mayor Aaron Shepley says.

"Ralph was a spectacular human being to have on (the) council," Shepley said.

Dawson died on Thursday at the age of 90, the city said in a news release issued Thursday afternoon.

Calling Dawson a "man of the people," Shepley said he was very thoughtful about how those living in the area might be affected by any given project brought

Since a case of the coronavirus was detected last Friday in Chicago, Lake and McHenry counties' health departments actively have been monitoring the novel coronavirus situation.There have been no coronavirus cases detected in Lake and McHenry counties at this time, according to local health officials.As of Thursday, five cases of the coronavirus have been confirmed in the United States, including in Illinois. The first instance of person-to-person transmission of this virus was confirmed on Thursday in Chicago.

NEW YORK (AP) — For the first time in the U.S., the new virus from China has spread from one person to another, health officials said Thursday.

The latest case — the sixth in the country — is the husband of a Chicago woman who got sick from the virus after she returned from the epicenter of an outbreak in China. There have been previous cases in China and elsewhere of the virus spreading between people in a household or workplace.

BEIJING (AP) — The World Health Organization declared the outbreak sparked by a new virus in China that has been exported to more than a dozen countries as a global emergency Thursday after the number of cases spiked tenfold in a week.

The U.N. health agency defines an international emergency as an “extraordinary event” that constitutes a risk to other countries and requires a coordinated international response.

China first informed WHO about cases of the new virus in late December.
