A group called McHenry County Right to Bear Arms is circulating a petition that would put an advisory referendum question on the ballot in the November 2020 election. The petition urges people to make McHenry County a Second Amendment (Gun) Sanctuary County by “protecting lawful gun owners from unconstitutional laws passed by the Illinois General Assembly.” 

This Second Amendment sanctuary activity in Illinois accelerated after Governor JB Pritzker’s pledge to pass gun safety measures in Illinois.

Administrators with Huntley School District 158 are investigating an incident in which one of its school buses was stopped at an "unsafe distance" from the train crossing at Route 47 and Main Street while a freight train was passing.

The bus did not have any children on it was was empty except for the driver.

Though "no harm" resulted from the incident, the district said a photo "appears to show a very dangerous situation that is unacceptable and not in keeping with our established transportation safety practices."

Jeep posted on its Twitter account on Friday a video teasing what appears to be a Super Bowl commercial shot – at least in part – on the Woodstock Square last weekend.

BATAVIA – Candidates seeking the Republican nomination for the 14th Congressional District discussed a variety of issues in front of potential voters Thursday, from gun control to health care.

SPRINGFIELD – Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul and two other state attorneys general filed a lawsuit in federal court Thursday to ensure the Equal Rights Amendment officially becomes the 28th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

SPRINGFIELD – Government reform advocates told a panel of state lawmakers Thursday that Illinois has some of the weakest governmental ethics rules in the country and that lawmakers should put more teeth into them if they hope to regain the trust of the public.

NEW YORK (AP) — Delta Air Lines and American Airlines are suspending all flights between the U.S. and China as the coronavirus outbreak spreads. American Airlines says it is suspending flights beginning Friday through March 27. Delta says its suspension will not take effect until Feb. 6 to ensure that customers looking to exit China can do so. Delta's suspension will last until April 30. Other U.S.

The group of residents originally seeking to dissolve the entirety of Oakwood Hills now are looking to only disconnect one part of it – the Chalet Hills Estates subdivision – from the rest of the village.

Illinois code states that any territory in a municipality can be disconnected if it contains 20 or more acres, if there will be no substantial disruption to existing service facilities in the municipality, and if the municipality will not be "unduly harmed" through loss of tax revenue in the future, among other provisions.

A former Harvard city clerk and amusement park employee who was found in possession of a USB drive containing child pornography was sentenced on Thursday to probation.

Andrew Wells, 57, will serve 24 months of sex offender probation for possession of child pornography.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Republican Sen. Lamar Alexander of Tennessee will oppose calling more witnesses in President Donald Trump’s impeachment trial, all but dashing Democratic efforts to hear more testimony and pushing the Senate toward a vote to acquit Trump as soon as Friday.

A vote on witnesses, expected Friday, could lead to an abrupt end and assured acquittal in only the third presidential impeachment trial in American history. Trump was pressing for action in time for his State of the Union address, and that now seems likely.
