Burglary reported in Stamford’s South End

The rooming house burglary was called in at 3:36 p.m. Tuesday when a man returned to his Cedar Street room and discovered that someone had gained entry to the rear of the rooming house by smashing windows in the home’s rear door.

Police were also called to Pamlynn Road Tuesday afternoon a little after 3 p.m. when a homeowner retured home to find that someone had tried to get into his residence by jimmying a rear sliding glass window.

 

Police seize nearly three pounds during pot hand-off in Stamford

STAMFORD-A weeks long investigation into a city man’s pot dealing business led police on Friday to seize well over two and one-half pounds of marijuana and arrest a Fairfield man.

The operation began on Saturday afternoon when officers of the Narcotics and Organized Crime squad decided it was time to exercise their search and seizure warrants against Marquail Bates, 28, of Seaton Road.

The driver of the car, Erik Marrero, 20, of Fairfield, was charged with possession of a kilo of marijuana and possession of marijuana with intent to sell.

 

Cops: Bridgeport man used Uber to deliver cocaine in Stamford

Capt. Richard Conklin said the Narcotics and Organized Crime squad was alerted that a man, later identified as Orlando Rodriguez, would be making a “large scale” cocaine delivery Saturday night, just below the Merritt Parkway.

Rodriguez, 19, of Madison Avenue, was charged with possession of narcotics and possession of over an ounce of narcotics with intent to sell.

Stamford reps send items to full board

Committee members had proposed making the WPCA responsible for repairing the portion of the sewer lateral on city land, in response to a situation in which a homeowner incurred $10,000 to fix a lateral break beyond their property line.

The Appointments Committee Oct. 25 approved John Paul Marchetti to the Patriotic and Special Events Committee, Mark Evens to the Social Services Commission, and Jim Huerta and Jonathan Winkel to both the Urban Redevelopment Commission and Economic Development Commission.

 

Barnum house relocation snarling High Ridge Road Sunday morning

STAMFORD—A longer than anticipated operation to move the historic Hoyt Barnum House to North Stamford is holding up traffic on High Ridge Road Sunday morning.

Starting around 5 a.m. and initially projected to take two hours, the two pieces of the house were still making their way up Bedford Street and High Ridge Road on motorized dollies at about one mile per hour, according to Libby Carlson, a spokeswoman for Mayor David Martin.

 

Female struck by car outside Stamford High School

Police say a female was brought to the hospital with serious injuries after she was struck by a car Saturday morning outside Stamford High School.

Sgt. Erin Trew said the accident happened at about 7:15 a.m. and that the female’s injuries “looked serious.” He said there was no immediate update on her condition.

The high school is located at 55 Strawberry Hill Avenue.

 

Trump supporters rally in downtown Stamford

STAMFORD — A small group of Donald J. Trump supporters from Stamford and neighboring towns gathered with signs and a bullhorn outside the Ferguson Library on Friday to drum up support for their candidate and to raise awareness about the potential for voter fraud they see looming over the Nov. 8 election.

According to an investigation by the State Elections Enforcement Commission, Ayala — who Wrotnowski noted is the daughter of Bridgeport’s Democratic Registrar of Voters — cast ballots in districts where she did not live.

 

Stamford basement fire ruled accidental

The occupants and fire officials say a tragedy was averted because the homeowner had working smoke detectors on each level of the home.

Spaulding said fire investigators found numerous extension cords with several devices plugged in that could have shorted out and caused the fire.

The fire destroyed the contents of the basement, but caused no structural damage, Spaulding said.

 

Sprinklers contain Stamford apartment fire

STAMFORD — A fire caused by an unattended space heater in a Pequot Drive apartment early Friday afternoon was mostly contained by an overhead sprinkler system.

The sprinkler system brought the fire completely under control by the time firefighters arrived at the Southwood Square Apartments about 2 p.m. Friday, fire Capt. Paul Newman said.
