Stamford Basement Fire Ruled Accidental

The occupants and fire officials say a tragedy was averted because the homeowner had working smoke detectors on each level of the home. Spaulding said fire investigators found numerous extension cords with several devices plugged in that could have shorted out and caused the fire. The fire destroyed the contents of the basement, but caused no structural damage, Spaulding said.
