Fire victim “on edge” Stamford fire official says

The 64-year-old man has remained in the Stamford Hospital Intensive Care Unit, contrary to an earlier report of his being transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital.

Because of his dire health problems that involve a serious case of smoke inhalation, Spaulding said he will wait to release the man’s name in case he does not make it.

In jail for the past 17 months since his arrest on a charge of murder, Francis recently filed a Speedy Trial Motion on his case, forcing the state to begin his trial within 30 days or dismiss the charge against him.

Jury selection begins in Stamford rape trial

STAMFORD-A city man awaiting trial on a rape charge for more than three years is choosing a jury to decide his fate beginning Tuesday.

Darris Frazier, 30, of Springdale was arrested on charges of first-degree sexual assault and first-degree unlawful restraint after a 25-year-old woman accused him of sexually assaulting her at his apartment in May 2013.

 

Stamford fire victim fighting for life

STAMFORD — An Atlantic Street resident suffered severe smoke inhalation Monday afternoon after a fire broke out inside his apartment.

Spaulding said the man, whose age was not immediately known, was found by his landlord lying on a second-floor landing of the Atlantic Street building about 2:30 p.m. Monday.

 

Pet pics with Santa offered at Stamford mall

“During this special event, we invite you and your four-legged friends for photos with Santa!” the mall announced on its website.

For safety reasons, animals will not be permitted to enter the shopping center prior to the event start time.

 

Stamford SantaCon is this weekend

STAMFORD — SantaCon, the annual event celebrated in cities across the country, where young people dress up in holiday garb and drink at bars, is returning to Stamford on Saturday.

Revelers will meet at noon on Bedford Street. Stops include Brother Jimmy’s, Bradford’s Grill and Tavern, Tigin Irish Pub, Brickhouse, McFadden’s Saloon, Bar BQ, Bobby Valentine’s and Tiernan’s Bar and Restaurant.

 

Man shot on East Side Sunday

STAMFORD-Police say that a man was shot on the East Side on Sunday afternoon.

Police were dispatched to the call on Seaton Road at 3:09 p.m. Police say the man was shot in the chest and was taken to Stamford Hospital for treatment, where he remains.

Stamford’s Curtain Call recognizes volunteers of the year

Shots fired in downtown Stamford

STAMFORD — Police are investigating after at least four gunshots were fired in the downtown area early Thursday morning.

Officers responding to an unrelated incident on West Park Place about 1 a.m. heard four or five shots coming from the Bell Street garage area, Sgt. Simon Blanc said.

Officers investigated the area, but they found no bullet holes or shell casings, according to the report.

Blanc said police stopped one suspicious vehicle coming out of the Bell Street garage, but the occupants were released after questioning.

 

Teen charged with breaking into cars in Springdale

STAMFORD — A 16-year-old city boy was charged with burglary after police said he broke into two cars Friday morning in Springdale.

Police were investigating a report about a group of suspicious teens riding their bicycles after midnight on Weed Hill Avenue and Ridgeway Street when they found four abandoned bicycles in the area, according to the report.
