Newest police dog gets help from Stamford Masons and city kid

STAMFORD-The police department’s K9 Unit got some help Wednesday night from some Stamford Masons and the son of a fire department officer to purchase a custom-fit ballistic vest for the department’s newest hire.

Murphy saw a flyer asking for funds on a grocery store bulletin board and decided to give all of his birthday money to help buy the vest.

STAMFORD — An East Side woman escaped serious injury after she was hit by a pickup truck while crossing the street against the light on East Main Street Monday evening.

Surveillance cameras from the convenience store captured the shocking moment when Davisson was thrown to the ground and thrown 15 to 20 feet before the driver hit the brakes.

Store owner Eddy Polomia said the female driver stopped and pulled over, but then drove away.

Wheelchair bandit to get six years in jail

STAMFORD — The wheelchair bandit who rolled into a mall jewelry store in August 2014 and sprinted out with a $37,000 Rolex watch in his hands is scheduled to be sentenced to six years in jail at the Stamford courthouse today.

Once he had a Rolex Daytona in his hand, he jumped out of the wheelchair and maced the employee and a security guard, who he knocked to the ground while running out the store, police said.

 

Movie box damaged by thief in Stamford

STAMFORD-An after hours thief pried his way into a Redbox movie rental container in Glenbrook sometime Tuesday morning, police said.

Sgt. Simon Blanc said police were dispatched to CVS at 229 Hope Street on a vandalism call at 8 a.m. Tuesday.

The responding officer noticed pry marks on the machine with movies and DVDs strewn all over the ground.

Blanc said it was unclear how many DVDs or videos games were missing.

Two other men — James Rackover, 25, of New York, N.Y., and Lawrence Dilione, 28, of Jersey City, N.J. — were previously arrested in connection with the case and face charges of concealment of a human body, hindering prosecution and tampering with evidence.

The Westhill High School graduate then accompanied the group to a party at Rackover’s Grand Sutton apartment, where the crime later took place, police said.

Police: Sex assault suspect caught with stun gun

Alex Manriquez, 38, of Strawberry Hill Avenue, was driving on Cove Road shortly after midnight when a patrol officer stopped him for a traffic violation.

Police Sgt. Simon Blanc said the officer approached the car and noticed the weapon, also known as Taser, in plain view in the back seat of the car.

On Tuesday, Manriquez was charged with carrying a dangerous weapon, criminal possession of an electronic defensive weapon and illegal possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle.

 

Cops: Shoplifter arrested after scuffle with store security

A security manager at the High Ridge Road department store was monitoring her cameras about 5 p.m. when she saw a woman put a necklace and a pair of gloves into her handbag, according to the report.

Police Sgt. Simon Blanc said the woman, who was accompanied by a man, went on to buy other items and pay for them with fraudulent credit cards.

Blanc said she was taken to the police department, where officers learned she had four fraudulent credit cards and a fake Illinois driver’s license.

 

Burglary suspect may be responsible for other break-ins in Stamford

STAMFORD-An alleged burglar who was apprehended after being chased away by an alert building security guard over the weekend, may be responsible for several other office break-ins, police say.

Conklin says police suspect that Butler, who he says has an extensive record for burglaries and break-ins, is also suspected of doing other break-ins in a Summer Street office building two weeks ago.
