Troy firefighter removes hawks' nest from neighborhood where they had attacked

A Troy firefighter who is federally licensed to handle birds of prey came to the aid of a Troy neighborhood where about a dozen people had been attacked by a pair of Cooper's hawks.The firefighter, who wants to remain anonymous, contacted the appropriate federal agencies and gained approval to remove the hawks' nest from a tree on Hempstead Street, according to a statement from Chuck Riesterer, assistant chief of the Troy Fire Department.

 

Huntingon Woods attorney sentenced to 3 years for fraud

A Huntington Woods attorney was ordered to serve three years in prison Tuesday for defrauding investors of more than $2 million by using their funds for gambling at a Las Vegas casino, according to federal authorities.Robert Gross, 49, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge David M. A Pontiac man is suing the Oakland County Sheriff's Office and two deputies for alleged injuries he suffered when tasered last summer while riding his bike.Ronnie Fleming, 59, also claims he was falsely arrested and imprisoned as well as other allegations in connection with the incident.The lawsuit, filed in federal court last month, claims false arrest, false imprisonment and other allegations in connection with the incident.

Waterford man killed in White Lake Township motorcycle crash

A Waterford man was pronounced dead after a motorcycle crash last week in White Lake Township. According to White Lake Township police, the incident occurred at 9:15 p.m. on June 18 in the area of Elizabeth Lake and Teggerdine Roads. A Waterford man, 59, was reportedly thrown from his motorcycle after rounding a curve in the road and hitting some rocks, the man's son, who was riding a motorcycle behind him, told police.
