The city of Southfield plans to appoint an interim police chief and conduct a national search for a replacement for Eric Hawkins, who has accepted a chief's position in Albany, New York.Hawkins has been chief in Southfield since 2012, He joined the Southfield Police Department in 1990 as a cadet.

Police suspect 2 Troy men of breaking into cars, 1 arrested

Two 22-year-old Troy men, stopped by a police officer while dressed all in black and riding bikes on Rochester Road near Longfellow Drive at around 3:30 a.m. July 22, are suspected of breaking into cars, and one was arrested after being found in possession of a stolen gun, burglary tools and other items.

Emagine Theater in Royal Oak is getting ready to make renovations and add a few more movie auditoriums.Royal Oak city officials this week approved several changes in the theater's operation plans, including renovations, at their location at 200 N. Main Street.Among the changes are the addition of three movie auditoriums with seating for 329 patrons.

Lyon Township man barricades himself, commits suicide after reported fight with wife

Trial for man accused of killing girlfriend, Ashley Rich, moved to October

The murder trial that was set to begin this week for a Waterford man charged with shooting to death his girlfriend last August has been postponed to October after prosecutors asked a judge to not allow a witness to testify about the gun used in the killing.The witness, Steven Howard, is listed as an attorney and firearm expert.
