Lima Senior has high expectations

Lima Senior head coach Andre Griffin, with a year of head coaching experience under his belt, learned a lot in his first season and he expects to build on the successes and gain knowledge from the mistakes.
The one area he already is one step ahead is preparation. Last season, the Spartans and Griffin were still learning each other’s style and skill set so it took a while for the Spartans to hit their stride.

Competitive balance gets mixed reviews from area coaches

For nearly four decades, Ada head coach Bob Olwin has seen a number of changes to rules, equipment and technology.
And as he prepares from another photo day, the veteran coach pretty much said things stay the same with players forgetting their shoulder pads or wearing the wrong color pants.
But one change Olwin has no control over was Ohio High School Athletic Association introducing competitive balance beginning with football this year.

Letter: Dan King 10th Memorial Poker Run touches the lives of veterans

Angels for Veterans is a nonprofit 501c3 organization whose focus is service and companion dogs for veterans. Service dogs provide assistance to veterans with disabilities such as Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Mobility, hearing assistance, and visually impaired. Companion dogs do not have full public access. They are just as the name implies, companions-nice obedience trained dogs for veterans who need the company of a loving, tail wagging best friend.

Cal Thomas: Historical hysteria

“The only thing we learn from history is that we learn nothing from history.” — Friedrich Hegel
We will learn even less from history if we wipe it clean, as some are trying to do by removing statues of Confederate leaders whose beliefs about slavery and race most, including me, find offensive. Conversation beats censorship.

Chicago Tribune: Why does the ACLU help neo-Nazis?

AUG. 23, 2017 — When white supremacists wanted to hold a “Unite the Right” rally at the site of a Robert E. Lee monument in Charlottesville, the Virginia city insisted they gather in a different park. So the neo-Nazis got help from an organization widely vilified on the far right: the American Civil Liberties Union. It sued the city, and a federal judge ruled in its favor. The hateful assembly occurred where it was originally planned.

Letter: No greater hate than abortion

Human beings have a free will to choose right or wrong, love or hate. However, our choices have consequences.
We know the right choices are based upon true love. Jesus gave us two commandments (not suggestions): 1) love God above all else and 2) love each other as Jesus loved us. Jesus loved us to the point of dying for us. Jesus also taught that there is no greater love than for a person to lay down one’s own life for another. So, the greatest love is to rank self below love of God and others. What a different and greater world would result from this choice.
