LIMA — As they are each year at this time, animals were on display Friday at the Allen County Fair.
But even more evident was the display of support — both emotional and financial — from the business community in Allen and surrounding counties for 4-H members exhibiting their animals one final time at this year’s fair.
More than 300 participants in the county 4-H program led their steers, sheep, goats and hogs into the show ring under the watchful eyes of bidders for the annual Junior Fair Livestock Auction.

Dwight Ketcham was my brother-in-law. He was 15 years older than me. He married my oldest sister June Spencer Ketcham.
We grew up in Lima. Dwight was a strong man physically and emotionally. He taught me a lot. Dwight was very handy. One time he replaced a door at my parents’ house; I was young and watching him. While he tore out the old door he gave me a job. Go pull out the nails, pound the nails on the sidewalk and straighten them out. I did it and showed him. Not straight enough. Do it again.

BLUFFTON —Kevin Kidd, of Lima, has accepted the administrator position at Mennonite Memorial Home and Willow Ridge, Bluffton. Both communities are part of Mennonite Home Communities of Ohio.
Kidd has a bachelor’s degree from St. Joseph’s College and a master’s in business administration in health care management from the University of Phoenix.
He has served in a variety of long-term care roles during his 39 years of experience in the field, including executive director and owner/operator.

North Jefferson Street at East O’Connor Street, Lima — A traffic accident with property damage was investigated Thursday.
300 block of West High Street, Lima — A hit-skip traffic accident was investigated Thursday.
East 7th Street at South Main Street, Lima — Officers received a call Thursday of a reported robbery.
700 block of St. Johns Avenue, Lima — A reported assault was investigated Thursday.

LIMA — Two Allstate exclusive agency owners in Lima have been designated as Allstate Premier Agencies for 2017.
The agencies are Marshall Insurance Agency, 1164 W. North St., Lima, and the Sam McLean Agency, 1570 N. Main St., Suite B, Lima.

LIMA — Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church is hosting an anniversary celebration for Pastor Cleven Jones’ 5th anniversary at 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 17, at the church located at 110 W. 11th St., Lima. The Rev. Arthur L. Butler and congregation from Providence Missionary Baptist Church in Lima will be afternoon guests.
