Ohio man, woman get life in prison for child sex trafficking

CLEVELAND (AP) — An Ohio woman and a man serving time for child rape have been sentenced to life in prison after being convicted of charges related to the sex trafficking of young boys and a developmentally disabled girl.
Forty-two-year-old Andre Boynton and 39-nine-year-old Anika George, of North Royalton, were sentenced Friday by a judge in Cleveland after being convicted by a jury earlier this month of charges that included human trafficking, conspiracy and multiple counts of child rape and child pornography.

 

Ohio city trying to catch man flashing people on bicycle

DELAWARE (AP) — Police in a city outside Columbus are searching for a man who has exposed himself to women four times in recent weeks while on a bicycle.
The Columbus Dispatch reports (http://bit.ly/2vqCEZ1) a police captain in the city of Delaware says the bicyclist has been exposing himself since mid-July in parking lots and along a bike path.
Capt. Adam Moore calls the incidents “an assault.”

 

Quads on the quad: Quadruplets begin colleges in Connecticut

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) — Anna Ciacciarella put color-coded tape on all the desk lamps, mattress pads, notebooks and other dorm-room items as she and her three siblings prepared to move from the family home in Naugatuck to Quinnipiac University.
Her supplies were tagged red, Michael’s blue, Vincent’s yellow, and Sofia’s orange.

 

Federal appeals court reopens wrongful death lawsuit

CINCINNATI (AP) — A federal appeals court has revived a wrongful-death lawsuit against two Ohio police officers who shot and killed an armed man standing on his porch.
A three-judge panel at the Cincinnati-based U.S. Sixth Court of Appeals found there were enough questions about the shooting to restore claims. The Blade reports (http://bit.ly/2wuU0b3) the court upheld an earlier dismissal of claims against the city of Bellevue.

 

National Forest reports vandalism to signs needed for safety

PEDRO (AP) — Officials say someone has vandalized road signs critical to the safety of motorists and riders of all-terrain vehicles at Ohio’s Wayne National Forest.
Forest Service officials said in a release Friday the vandalism occurred Aug. 5 at the Hanging Rock Off-Highway Vehicle trailhead area in Lawrence County.
The Ironton Ranger District reports 12 signs along Forest Service Road 105 were broken off at their base. Most of the signs either alerted drivers to an ATV trail crossing or to stop for both road and ATV trail crossings.

 

State: Man accused of selling bus passes meant for students

COLUMBUS (AP) — Authorities say a man accused of selling stolen bus passes intended for an Ohio school district’s neediest students has been charged with telecommunications fraud.
The Ohio Auditor’s Office said in a statement that 31-year-old Jason Morris was arrested Friday after allegedly selling four stolen Central Ohio Transit Authority bus passes to an undercover investigator for $100. Authorities say the passes stolen from the Columbus City Schools were meant for students who are homeless or from low-income homes.

 

Group won’t show Browns games after players’ anthem protest

STRONGSVILLE (AP) — An Ohio Veterans of Foreign Wars post says it won’t show Cleveland Browns football games this season after a group of players knelt during the national anthem before a preseason game Monday.
VFW Post 3345 Commander Tim Zvoncheck posted a message to his Facebook page Wednesday that says the Strongsville post outside of Cleveland won’t support a group or person who “disgraces the flag or the anthem that we have fought for.”

Labor Day weekend marks beginning of hunting season

While the Labor Day weekend marks the end of the summer season for many, it also kicks off the huntings season for others.
The Black Swamp chapter of Pheasants Forever will hold a dove hunt open to youths and adults Sept. 2 and 3 at the Kalida Fish and Game Club, located at 16414 Ohio 694 near the golf course in Kalida. The hunt is scheduled for 7:30-11 a.m. with doors opening at 6:30 a.m. Participants must have a valid hunting license and HIP certification.

 

Is there another playoff trip ahead for the Buckeyes?

COLUMBUS — How strong is Ohio State football’s brand? How much have the Buckeyes impressed people during the six seasons Urban Meyer has been their coach?
The last time the Buckeyes were on the field they were embarrassed. And if humiliated is worse than embarrassed, then they were humiliated.
Maybe a little surprisingly, they were not even penalized for this in the court of public opinion. At least not much and not for long.
