Ride-sharing service Lyft expands to Lima area

LIMA — A popular ride-sharing company has extended its coverage area into the Lima region as part of a massive expansion that will provide more transportation options to Ohio residents throughout the state.
Lyft, a San Francisco-based transportation network known for the pink mustaches drivers attach to their cars, has expanded its Toledo market to include Lima and several other cities in northwest Ohio.

HARROD — Drop off recycling for residents of Harrod and Auglaize Township will be held from 12 to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 19, in the parking lot of the Allen East Community Center, 9520 Harrod Road, Harrod.

A white man wearing a S.W.A.T. team hat carries a woman who appears to be of Asian descent with her infant curled and sleeping on her chest through floodwaters like it’s something he does every day. Nothin’ to see here, folks. Move along.

 

History of Standard Oil Company to be discussed

CRIDERSVILLE — The history of the Standard Oil Company in western Ohio will be discussed at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 11 at Otterbein Retirement Living Community, 100 Red Oak Drive, Cridersville.
There will be a brief history of Standard Oil, its Solar Refinery Lima and its impact on our region. Ned Myers will present and share items from his collection of SOHIO collectibles.

Defiance County man becomes first 2017 Ohio death from West Nile virus

COLUMBUS — The state has reported Ohio’s first death from the West Nile virus this year.
The Department of Health said Wednesday the victim was a 74-year-old man from Defiance County in northwestern Ohio who had been hospitalized with encephalitis.
The agency says 10 human cases of the virus have been reported statewide this year.
Ohio had 17 West Nile virus cases in 2016 including four deaths, 35 in 2015 including two deaths and 11 in 2014 including one death.

Lima Area Black Ministerial Alliance hosting trade event with Berger

LIMA — Lima Area Black Ministerial Alliance is hosting trade expo and Burgers with Berger from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, at Second Baptist Church, 520 W. Spring St., Lima.
The event showcases the job and apprenticeship opportunities available in the Lima area community and to recognize Mayor David Berger’s leadership.

LIMA — South Side Christian Church is hosting a fall fashion show and buffet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 26, at South Side Christian Church, 3300 South Side Drive, Lima. Tickets are $15 and are available at the church office through Sept. 24. No tickets will be sold at the door.
