Police: Taco Bell employees in Cleveland fatally shoot armed robber

CLEVELAND — Police say three employees of a Cleveland fast food restaurant opened fire on two armed robbers, killing one.
Authorities say two masked robbers entered a Taco Bell on Wednesday and ordered employees to the ground.
Police say three employees pulled out their guns and fired, hitting one of the robbers six times. The other ran away.
Investigators say the man who was shot was found with a loaded gun in his hand. He was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead.

 

Public meeting on electrical rate aggregation coming to Lima

LIMA — A public information session on a ballot measure to aggregate electrical rates in the city of Lima will be held at 5 p.m. Monday in Lima City Council chambers, 50 Town Square, Lima.
If passed, the measure, which will be on the ballot this November, would allow eligible electric consumer accounts to be bundled by the Palmer Energy Company to negotiate with electricity providers for the best group rate, with consumers able to opt out if preferred.

 

Authorities plan expansion of naloxone access in Ohio county

CINCINNATI — Government and health officials plan to dramatically expand availability of an overdose-reversing drug in a southwest Ohio county.
Attorney General Mike DeWine and representatives of the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, BrightView Health and Adapt Pharma are among those taking part Thursday in announcing the naloxone access program and pilot study in Hamilton County.
They plan to more than quadruple distribution of Narcan nasal spray to 30,000 units.
Ohio has been one of the nation’s hardest-hit overdose states.

 

Carrasco throws complete game as Indians win 14th straight

CHICAGO — In a season where the Cleveland Indians hope to get one more win than last year, the team has a chance to take its best stretch of baseball farther than a year ago.
Carlos Carrasco was the latest Indians starter to shine with a complete game dismantling of the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday night, and the 5-1 victory was Cleveland’s 14th straight win.

 

Johnny Appleseed Parks hosting walking series

LIMA — The Johnny Appleseed Parks will be hosting its Walking Thru Autumn Hiking series beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, at the Ottawa Metro Park, 2632 Ada Road, Lima. Pre-register by calling 419-221-1232.
Hand-made walking sticks are available for purchase at $10. If participants walk in six out of the eight hikes, they are eligible to receive a Metro Parks hiking medallion.
The public is welcome to join in for any of the hikes but will not be eligible for a medallion.

Browns’ top pick Garrett injures ankle during practice

BEREA — Myles Garett’s big plans to sack Ben Roethlisberger in the season opener may be on hold.
At this point, everything’s suddenly in question.
Cleveland’s rookie defensive end, who through preseason has lived up to enormous expectations as the No. 1 overall pick in this year’s NFL draft, sustained a right ankle injury Wednesday, leaving his status for Sunday’s opener against Pittsburgh in doubt.

Roundup: Bluffton has low total against NWC foes in boys golf

OTTAWA — Bluffton had low team score of 187 in a Wednesday match involving Northwest Conference opponents Delphos Jefferson, Columbus Grove and Allen East at the par 36 Country Acres.
Medalist Aaron Belcher (40), Drew Wilson (43), Cole Fruchey (52) and Braeden Edwards (52) combined for the low total.
Delphos Jefferson (195) finished second followed by Columbus Grove (201) and Allen East (206)

 

Springfield a big test for Spartans

LIMA — Lima Senior has opened the season with two impressive wins but the Spartans will face their biggest test in the early season when they travel to battle perennial powerhouse Springfield in a non league affair Friday night.
Springfield, which was a playoff team last year in Division II, opened the season with a 55-21 win against Lancaster and followed it up with a 27-24 win against Cincinnati Princeton last week.
Springfield is loaded with a wealth of talent on offense and defense

 

Rejuvenated Shawnee takes on struggling Wapakoneta in key WBL football encounter

SHAWNEE TOWNSHIP – Perhaps the two biggest surprises in the Western Buckeye League are the 2-0 start for Shawnee and the 0-2 record Wapakoneta has posted.
This Friday the two will square off and it will determine a lot about how this season will go for both squads the remainder of the season.
For the Indians, the early success has been a surprise to numerous fans and pundits and even to Shawnee head coach Frank Crea.
