Energy companies lead modest rebound for US stock market

Energy companies led U.S. stocks to modest gains Wednesday as the market recouped some of its hefty losses from the day before.
Big retailers and health care companies also helped lift the market, which was coming off its worst day in almost three weeks. Utilities and phone companies were the biggest laggards. Some travel booking companies and airlines also fell.

 

Honda donating minivan to Family Promise of Lima-Allen County

LIMA — Honda Transmission Manufacturing of America will donate a 2015 Honda Odyssey to Family Promise of Lima-Allen County during an event at 2 p.m. Sept. 15 at Allen Nott Honda in Lima.
The donation will help Family Promise transport clients, especially children, according to a statement.

 

Miller City-New Cleveland School award $25,000 from America’s Farmers Grow Rural Education Grant

MILLER CITY — The Miller City-New Cleveland school has been awarded a $25,000 grant through America’s Farmers Grow Rural Education program, which is sponsored by Monsanto Fund.
In January 2016, farmers nominated their local school districts for the grants. In order to be eligible to nominate a school, farmers had to farm, or rent out, 25o acres of land or more and be older than 21 years of age, said John Koenig, Miller City-New Cleveland vocational agriculture instructor and FFA adviser.

St. Marys man joins national campaign to help foster children

ST. MARYS — St. Marys resident Mike Lhamon has joined the Connect Our Kids team as a Give BIG America campaign ambassador.
Connect Our Kids is a nonprofit organization that leverages the capabilities of new technology to find permanent families for foster children throughout America. The nonprofit will be rolling out a nationwide Give BIG America fundraising campaign to raise money for the development and implementation of new technology that will help improve the family recruitment process for foster care children, according to a statement.

 

Bowling Green man dies after single-vehicle accident in Paulding County

ANTWERP — A Bowling Green man was killed in a single-vehicle accident early Wednesday morning on U.S. 24 in Paulding County, the Van Wert Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol reported.
At about 4:55 a.m., a 2016 International tractor-trailer driven by George J. Weiler, 55, was eastbound on U.S. 24 near Antwerp when his vehicle traveled off the left side of the roadway. The tractor-trailer struck a bridge at xounty Road 11, continued over the bridge and landed on the roadway, where it caught fire.

 

St. Marys teen life-flighted to hospital after 2 vehicle-crash

ST. MARYS — A St. Marys teenager was injured in a two-vehicle accident Wednesday morning on county Road 66A in St. Marys, the Wapakoneta post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol reported.

 

Arrest made in Hancock County arson case

McCOMB — The Division of State Fire Marshal’s Fire and Explosion Investigations Bureau and the McComb Police Department have made an arrest in connection to an intentionally set fire at the McComb Watershed on Feb. 28 in Hancock County.
Philip Terry, 47, was indicted by the Hancock County Court of Common Pleas and arrested Tuesday evening by the McComb Police Department. Terry was incarcerated at the Hancock County Justice Center.

 

Kasich blasts Trump, invites immigrant ‘dreamers’ to Ohio

COLUMBUS (AP) — Ohio’s outspoken Republican governor on Wednesday blasted President Donald Trump’s decision to begin dismantling the Obama-era program protecting young immigrants brought into the country illegally.
On “CBS This Morning,” Gov. John Kasich said “putting kids, young people who are contributors in jeopardy” isn’t the American way.

 

Lima man enters not guilty plea in death of wife

LIMA — A Lima man charged with providing cocaine laced with fentanyl to his wife and ultimately causing her death entered not guilty pleas to charges of involuntary manslaughter and corrupting another with drugs Wednesday in Allen County Common Pleas Court
David E. Lewis, 42, was indicted by a grand jury on Aug. 17 for causing the death of Cynthia L. Lewis on or about Feb. 10. His brother-in-law, Daniel Kill, faces similar charges in connection with the death of Cynthia Lewis and will be arraigned at 3:30 p.m. Thursday.
