Celina man pleads guilty in murder of young boy

CELINA — Cory Eischen, 40, of rural Celina, was sentenced to 15 years to life Tuesday in Mercer County Common Pleas Court in the death of 4-year-old Jaxxon Baker in September of 2016.
Eischen pleaded guilty to several counts, including murder, child endangering and domestic violence. Prosecutors agreed to drop six charges, including aggravated murder, in exchange for the guilty pleas. That allowed Eischen to avoid a possible death penalty.
Eischen will have to serve the minimum of 15 years before he would be eligible for a parole hearing.

 

Get This: Massachusetts agricultural festival to recycle human urine

ORANGE, Mass. (AP) — A Massachusetts agricultural festival already known for its sustainable practices is taking it one step further this year by collecting and recycling human urine.
Organizers of the North Quabbin Garlic & Arts Festival tell The Telegram & Gazette the urine will eventually fertilize hay in the field in Orange on which the event is held.

 

Support group for depression and bi-polar individuals and family

Johnny Appleseed Parks hosting walking series

LIMA — The Johnny Appleseed Parks will be hosting its Walking Thru Autumn Hiking series beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, at the Ottawa Metro Park, 2632 Ada Road, Lima. Pre-register by calling 419-221-1232.
Hand-made walking sticks are available for purchase at $10. If participants walk in six out of the eight hikes, they are eligible to receive a Metro Parks hiking medallion.
The public is welcome to join in for any of the hikes but will not be eligible for a medallion.

Indians beat White Sox 9-4 for 13th straight win

CHICAGO — Jose Ramirez hit two more homers, Austin Jackson also connected and the Cleveland Indians beat the Chicago White Sox 9-4 on Tuesday night for their 13th straight victory, the longest run by a major league team this season.
Danny Salazar got just two outs in his return from right elbow inflammation, but Cleveland’s deep bullpen took over from there. Seven relievers combined for 8 1/3 scoreless innings as the Indians moved within one of their franchise-record 14-game win streak last year.

Powerful Hurricane Irma bears down on Caribbean islands

ST. JOHN’S, Antigua (AP) — The most powerful Atlantic Ocean hurricane in recorded history bore down on the islands of the northeast Caribbean on Tuesday night, following a path predicted to then rake Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Haiti and Cuba before possibly heading for Florida over the weekend.

 

Roundup: Allen East wins tri match in girls golf

LIMA — Medalist Kacey Meyer shot a 49 in leading Allen East to a victory in a Tuesday girls golf match against Delphos Jefferson and Lima Senior at the par 35 Lost Creek Golfers Club.
The Mustangs finished with a team total of 213 followed by Jefferson (232) and the Spartans (255). Halee Mattevi (51), Sydney Miller (51) and Kayla LaRotonda (62) also contributed to the winning score. Jefferson’s Sydnie McGue (54) and Lima Senior’s Nakaya Sigman (57) had the low rounds for their respective schools.
