MILLER CITY — The Miller City-New Cleveland school has been awarded a $25,000 grant through America’s Farmers Grow Rural Education program, which is sponsored by Monsanto Fund. In January 2016, farmers nominated their local school districts for the grants. In order to be eligible to nominate a school, farmers had to farm, or rent out, 25o acres of land or more and be older than 21 years of age, said John Koenig, Miller City-New Cleveland vocational agriculture instructor and FFA adviser. After being nominated, Koenig said the school had to submit an application explaining how the district would use the funds to further math and science education in their school, he said. “They wanted it as a proposal for primary education purposes,” Koenig said.
