Loeffler found guilty of murder

A jury this afternoon found an 86-year-old La Pine man guilty of murdering his wife.Lawrence Loeffler admitted that he shot and killed his wife, 83-year-old Betty Jane Loeffler, at their home in south county in January.

Bend Sears store to close

The Sears department store and the Sears Auto Center at the Bend River Promenade on Northeast Third Street will close in mid-December, a spokesman for the parent company confirmed today. No other Sears stores in the region will close, according to Howard Riefs director of corporate communications for Sears Holdings Corp.

Burning squirrel sparks brush fire

A squirrel caused a small brush fire Sunday south of Bend, the second squirrel in two weeks to spark such a blaze here.The woodland creature touched a pair of power lines Sunday along U. S. Highway 97, creating a short circuit that electrocuted and ignited the animal, said Dave Howe, battalion chief with the Bend Fire Department.

Body, car found northeast of Chemult

A hunter discovered a body today northeast of Chemult, along with a car belonging to a Bend man reported missing on Sept. 6.The Klamath County Major Crime Team is investigating the death.
