Controlled burn near Wickiup

The Bend-Fort Rock Ranger District plans to begin a prescribed burn on 428 acres near the Wickiup Reservoir dam west of La Pine today.In a news release, the Central Oregon Fire Management Service said recent rains have led fuels specialists to schedule the burn.Operations are expected to take two to four days and could create visible smoke in the Haner Park, Ponderosa Estates and Wild River subdivisions, as well as along Burgess Road and Forest Service roads 44 and 4260.

Oregon State Police seek hit-and-run suspect

Oregon State Police are looking for a suspect in a Wednesday afternoon hit-and-run in Sunriver who may be in Madras.According to responding Oregon State Police Trooper April Ratliff, Agustin Ayala-Sixtos was allegedly driving a car with three passengers when he hit a car containing two females, an adult driver and juvenile passenger, around 2:30 p.m.

Truck crashes, spills fuel in Warm Springs

One lane of U. S. Highway 97 through the Warm Springs Indian Reservation was still closed as of Wednesday night, a day after the crash of a fuel truck.Shortly after 9 p. m. Tuesday, a truck driven by Kyle Tabor of Bend struck a bull elk on the north end of the reservation. Tabor’s truck rolled on to its side and slid approximately 400 yards into a stand of trees on the edge of the highway. Several thousand gallons of fuel were spilled, triggering the complete closure of the highway for multiple hours.

 

Man arrested in animal neglect

A Terrebonne man was arrested earlier this week on more than 100 counts of animal neglect, according to the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office.Tim Williams, 60, faces 17 counts of first-degree animal neglect and 92 counts of second-degree animal neglect.Sheriff’s deputies were called to Williams’ home on Northwest Odem Avenue on Sunday after receiving reports of a foul odor and dead sheep.
