STAMFORD - A 70-year-old Stamford man was arrested on charges that he never returned his rental car and kept the vehicle -treating it like the vehicle was his own- for nearly three years.

Jacques Allouf, of Myano Lane, was charged with first-degree and second-degree larceny and released after signing a written promise to appear at court.

Property crimes Sgt. Sean Scanlan said investigator Richard Vetter was contacted by the National Insurance Crime Bureau while investiating a 2013 Nissan Altima stolen car claim from Hertz. Vetter was told that the vehicle was in the Stamford area.

STAMFORD — A city man who found his girlfriend watching Game 7 of Wednesday night’s World Series with an aquaintence of his was charged with beating the man up and throwing his cell phone and keys out the window of a Hope Street apartment.

Herbert Velez, 26, was charged with assault, disorderly conduct, burglary and criminal mischief.

Sgt. Brian Butler said police were called to Hope Street near the corner of Largo Drive on the report of a man who had kicked down the apartment door of his girlfriend.

STAMFORD - Police arrested a West Side woman Monday afternoon for allegedly trying plunge a knife into the chest of a male friend, who she claimed owed her money.

Sgt. Jennifer Pinto said police were called to The Village housing complex on Mohawk Court at 3:15 p.m. Monday on the report of a man who had just been stabbed in the chest.

Police got to the West Side location and immediately found the 28-year-old stabbing victim, but at first, the man said he did not know who it was that stabbed him.

STAMFORD - A young Stamford woman was slapped with a robbery charge Monday night after allegedly manhandling a clerk in an Atlantic Street store while trying to steal three packs of cigarettes.

Sgt. Jennifer Pinto said police were called to Stamford News and Deli on Atlantic Street at 8:15 p.m. on the report of a woman causing trouble in the store.

Store employees said Jeaneeca Strickland, 24, of Glenbrook Road, came into the store demanding three packs of Newport cigarettes and that the store give her credit to purchase them.

STAMFORD-Police say the quick action by Town Center security guards kept a man from plunging to his death at the Stamford mall late Monday afternoon.

Sgt. Jennifer Pinto said a 30-year-old man suffering from autism was in the food court on the seventh level of the mall at about 5:30 p.m. when he became agitated. As he and his guardian began leaving the food court, the man broke free and tried to throw himself over the railing.

Mall security guards arrived immediately and held the man down until police and medics arrived.

STAMFORD-Property crimes investigators are asking the public for help identifying two men who ran off with nearly $8,000 worth of sunglasses from an eyeglass store at Town Center Mall in Stamford. The police released a 30-second video shows two men walking in the upscale eyeglass shop on Oct. 16 before they pulled handfuls of glasses off the wall and ran out the door. The video is pretty dark and does not show the faces of the two men clearly. Police say the two got away with $7,400 worth of glasses.

STAMFORD-A city woman working as a cashier at a Darien running shop was charged with allegedly running a refund scam at the store.

Police say while she was working at the store, she pocketing about $12,000.

Monefa Hamilton, 28, of Commons Park South, Stamford, was charged with second-degree larceny and released after posting a $25,000 court appearance bond.

STAMFORD — A Norwalk man who pleaded guilty to ripping off retirees with worthless home improvement scams avoided being sentenced to jail at the Stamford courthouse Monday after paying nearly $50,000 in restitution to his elderly victims.

Angelo Bimbo of Ponus Avenue narrowly dodged a jail sentence after pleading guilty to felony counts of first and second-degree larceny and paid $47,300 in restitution to his elderly victims in Stamford and Norwalk.

STAMFORD — Police early Saturday raided a Greenwich Avenue residence and seized a stolen gun and arrested the man alleged to have been in possession of the pistol.

Police charged Guatemalan national Wilber Arana-Cardona, 37, of Greenwich Avenue, with possession of a pistol without a permit, theft of a firearm and interfering with a search warrant and held him over the weekend in lieu of a $75,000 cash court appearance bond.

STAMFORD — More than 220 pounds of medicine was collected at the police department Saturday during national National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, the mayor’s office said.

“With opioid abuse at epidemic levels, it is so important for residents to drop off unwanted, unneeded or expired medications for safe disposal,” Mayor David Martin said in a news release.
