Stamford Employee Charged With Bilking Darien Store

STAMFORD-A city woman working as a cashier at a Darien running shop was charged with allegedly running a refund scam at the store. Police say while she was working at the store, she pocketing about $12,000. Monefa Hamilton, 28, of Commons Park South, Stamford, was charged with second-degree larceny and released after posting a $25,000 court appearance bond. According to Hamilton’s three-page arrest affidavit, Darien police got involved in May 2017 when the owner of Runner’s Roost complained to police that he suspected that Hamilton bilked over $12,000 from the store by using fraudulent debit card returns. The affidavit said Hamilton began working at the store in April 2014 and worked there until May of this year.
