STAMFORD — A city man will receive probation for assaulting a Hispanic immigrant with a broomstick while shouting ethnic slurs at the victim and his friends last year on East Main Street. Erick Sanchez, 20, of Tresser Boulevard, pleaded guilty this week to felony counts of first-degree assault and intimidation based on bigotry or bias. According to the plea agreement, Sanchez will receive no jail time but will serve three years probation. He could be sent to jail for up to five years if he breaks the law while on probation.

STAMFORD — A convicted felon who in August finished serving a three year jail sentence for an armed robbery that left a man brain damaged was arrested on Tuesday night on gun possession and other charges.

Capt. Richard Conklin said officers in the Narcotics and Organized Crime squad were near the Southwood Square Apartments on Pequot Drive shortly after 9 p.m. and spotted a large group in the rear of the complex. The officers identified 29-year-old Roland Newton in the group, a Stamford man who police knew had a no-trespassing order placed on him for that property.

STAMFORD — A Norwalk woman has been sentenced to three years in jail for supplying the heroin that killed a young Easton woman who overdosed earlier this year.

During an emotional hearing at the Stamford courthouse Tuesday in which the victim’s teenage sister was present, Judge Gary White handed down the prison sentence to 54-year-old Lori Ledonne, of Isaacs Street, Norwalk. Ledonne pleaded guilty this summer to second-degree manslaughter and sale of narcotics for causing the death of 22-year-old Kadeelyn Konstantino, who died on Ledonne’s bathroom floor in February.

STAMFORD-A Blue Light Emergency Phone alert helped police find the suspect involved in the alleged robbery of a cell phone from a woman in Veterans Park Tuesday.

Sgt. Robert Shawinsky said police were alerted to a problem at the downtown park at 10:05 a.m. Monday by a witness who saw a man assaulting a woman and activated the emergency phone and camera.

Police were sent lights and sirens to the park where after a canvass of the area they located the female victim.

The woman followed the man who attacked her and told police that she was robbed of her cell phone in the park.

STAMFORD-An all-hands foot pursuit at the Stamford police department on Bedford street Tuesday morning ended in the arrests of three juveniles who bailed out of a stolen car on Second Street.

More then a dozen officers raced out of police headquarters and began sprinting west on Hoyt Street on the report of the chase in progress.

Sgt. Richard Gasparino was on an overtime shift directing traffic on a construction job on Second Street between Summer and Bedford streets at 9:15 a.m.

STAMFORD-For the second time in a week, Narcotics and Organized Crime officers took another loaded gun off a troubled teen, this time the youth was only 17-years old.

Capt. Richard Conklin said the officers were on patrol in the South End and keeping an eye on the stoop of a residence that has sparked a number of complaints about people drinking or doing drugs.

As the officers pull up, they saw a 17-year-old boy reach into his waistband and push something down his pants.

STAMFORD-City police on Friday laid in wait for a suspected drug dealer returning from New York City with a resupply of cocaine and busted the man allegedly in possession of almost five ounces of the illicit drug worth about $18,000, police said.

Darren Baldwin, 31, of North Street was charged with possession of narcotics, sale of narcotics, interfering with police and possession of drug paraphernalia and was held in lieu of a $50,000 court appearance bond.

STAMFORD-A man who pleaded guilty to the violent carjacking a city woman in 2016 was sentenced to five years in jail Friday.

STAMFORD — Michael Borcina, the contractor involved in the Christmas fire of 2011 that killed three girls and their grandparents, died last week.

Michael Borcina, 58, died from cancer, the Hartford Courant reported.

Borcina was blamed during the investigation into a fire in the Shippan section that killed 9-year-old Lily Badger and 7-year-old twins Sarah and Grace, as well as their grandparents, Lomer and Pauline Johnson. The girls’ mother, Madonna Badger, and Borcina survived.

Borcina was dating Madonna Badger and involved in renovating the home before the fire.
